The service was good and quick, the food was very good other than they were out of the ribeye I wanted. Had filet mignon instead and it was good , only reason don't give 5 stars is the missing steak

Food choices were poor. Muffins were overcooked and flavorless. Maybe better choices, but they were out and not making

Probably the best steak we've ever had (ribeye) the trout and crème brûlée were also phenomenal!! Deliciously seasoned and fresh. Highly recommend this restaurant and even more with the hotel/ hot springs combo.

We enjoy the Portneuf every time we visit Lava Hot Springs; 2 or 3 times a year. This visit was actually on Thanksgiving and they had a traditional dinner with a couple of choices offered. Turkey, ham, and all of the sides, plus desert. Drinks were not part of the 'all inclusive' dinner so I made sure I had 2.

Off season so we expected it to be slow and it was. Food was fine but they didn't have the entrees we wanted so we only had a salad and an app. The server ask us “to hurry and order” because the chef would close early if it was slow. It was only 6:30 so we didn't order anything else. Really felt as if they didn't want to be there so went elsewhere for the remainder of our evening. We won't return and dine there again.

We had a fantastic experience at Portneuf! I have celiac disease and the chef and waitress were very knowledgeable about how to accommodate to avoid any cross contamination. The food was delicious and we had a great time! We will definitely be back.

We enjoyed a quick breakfast at Cafe & A'more on our way out of town. The service was friendly and prompt. The americano was well made and not too much water! We ate the quiche and the "pig in a puff"; both came out fresh and piping hot. They were able to make the pig in a puff without cheese to accommodate my spouse's allergies. They were reasonably priced, especially for a tourist town in the off season! As an added bonus, we got to eat in the hotel's charming 19th century dining room. We will definitely visit Cafe & A'more again when we are in Lava.Vegetarian options: All food is vegetarian except the pig in a puffDietary restrictions: They made the pig in a puff without cheese.

Service had a terrible attitude as if we were bothering them just by dining there. My drink order was incorrect which happens from time to time, but the staff's first response was to argue that it was correct before hearing me out and recognizing it was not what was ordered. Then the wrong salad was delivered, which was another acceptable error, but the response was that we were mistaken until they checked the order and recognized the kitchen made another mistake. The outdoor heater didn't work, and rather than swapping the propane tank, the staff seemed irritated that we asked that they turn on the heater in the first place. Good atmosphere, sub par food that is somehow still the best food in town, but the service was what really spoiled the experience.

The historical venue is awesome setting on the banks of the Portnuef River! The Ribeye I had was the best Grassfed Beef I have ever had and the Cook was perfect! Chef Mark from Boston is a 5 star Chef! Highly recommended!

We sat on the patio with our three dogs. The waiter was very kind and knowledgeable. We ordered burgers and Crabcakes along with a caprese salad and were not disappointed. The food came out quickly and everything was very fresh. Would definitely recommend!

Best Quiche of my life! By far!... I don't write a lot of reviews, but this place is special. It was sort of weird to walk into the hotel hoping maybe it would be in there ?... And then I thought it may be Starbucks style, heat up old things in the microwave. But it's not! It's amazing!!

Don't waste your time. I could write a novel about our experience there this morning, but I'll just leave it at that.

We were looking forward to a nice dinner. We sat on the patio with our dog which was very lovely. My husband started with an Old Fashion which he liked and I had their Pinot. Then we had their house salad with a baguette. The salad which was fresh and tasty. My husband ordered the French Onion soup for his entree and I ordered the Duck Confit with Rice Pilaf. His soup came out first and he was almost done with it when my duck was served. He said the soup was very tasty. My duck was VERY undercooked. I told the server about the duck. That is when I was told they had a new chef and the chef wasn't very good at cooking the duck! Why didn't they tell me before ordering the duck? They offered me something else so I ordered the roasted halibut. My husband had to wait for my entree so he decided to order the clam chowder. His chowder arrived before my halibut. Again he said it was very tasty full of clams and vegetables. I finally was served the halibut. Since I ordered rice pilaf with my duck I assumed they would serve it with the halibut. Wrong, they served it with mashed potatoes. I told the server who then brought me the pilaf on the side. The halibut was good but the sauce was TOO salty. I ate it anyway. We decided to try dessert. A mistake. The Creme Brulee was very over cooked. So in summary, new chef who can't prepare the food on the menu except the salad and soup, great service to make up for the chef.
