Twice we go on a two hour drive to eat there and both times they are closed within the year. I expect a restaurant to be open for business when they say they will be open. We will never go back.

Pretty good for the only joint in town, but not what you'd expect anywhere else in the west. Sorry. If that sounds bad, but actually, it was really good. I don't want that. This sounds confusing, but actually it's really joint in town. This is the best you're going to get

Burrito is pretty good, no complaints there. They do not wait on the tables, and when you order your food and drink, you pay at the counter, closing your tab, and they call your number when the food is ready. My only problem was I wanted a second drink, my meal was half done, and the line was too long to order a second round. I think a little change would improve customer service. I think their concept is to be a little more fast food than sit-down dining.

Meh the food is very bland. Needs more flavor and the sauces at the salsa bar also have zero flavor to them. The bottle of cholula sitting on the table was more flavorful 😬 great staff and service though. Everyone was very nice!

Taqueria Pelayo Mexico Food fills the niche for quality Mexican cuisine that has been missing in Lava for a while. The interior is beautiful, filled with hand-painted wooden seating and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. The staff are great, always helpful and polite. I had the shrimp dish and enjoyed every bite, especially with fresh salsa from the salsa bar.

Before leaving my review I read through quite a few and was shocked to see so many negative ones. My family LOVES this place and is something we look forward to every year. All the employees are nice, food comes out fast and HOT!
We’ve loved everything we have tried so far. Don’t let the negative reviews draw you away from here it is sooo good!!

This is not a genuine sit down and looks like it from outside, I was excited to eat there since it's the only Mexican food in lava hot springs, The salsa bar was good but both me and my wife's food was below average and we didn't finish it and disappointed.

The food is pretty good! It's a bit different from other mexican restaurants but still has plenty of flavor. They should stop putting the arugula salad on the food and off to the side though. The drinks are delicious too, better than most I've had. I always try to stop by whenever I'm in town just because the food is worth it

Interesting method of service, food isn’t bad, no high chairs for little ones:

I am genuinely not a fan of the counter service they have. They had 3 girls working the counter and maybe helping in the back? It wouldn’t have been bad for them to serve the tables given that’s the atmosphere the restaurant presents.

Food was average; not bad but weirdly not the tastiest Mexican food we’ve ever had. The food seemed to lack seasoning… which is a first because most Mexican food we’ve had is well seasoned. We got the Verde Burrito and the Quesabirria… both of which desperately needed more flavor. The dipping sauce/soup the quesabirria came with was watery and simply tasted like a watered-down broth. The green sauce tomatillo sauce saved the dishes and gave them a little more flavor… although I feel like the sauces from the salsa bar could be tastier. They seemed to run flat but spicy (interesting of a sauce to be flat yet spicy). Something was missing… perhaps salt and some other kind of seasoning to enhance the flavor.

They don’t have high chairs for toddlers and kids… which really threw me off. Their excuse was that someone once threw one off the balcony so now they don’t carry them anymore. I don’t understand what ill reasoning this is but if someone threw a chair off will you stop having chairs for the rest of your customers?

Besides all this I did like the restaurant itself, but they could do a little much better regarding the above.

Been awhile since I was forced to make a Bad review. But here we go, So I am a Bus Driver, brought 25 Track kids to the water slides and decided to find a restaurant to sit and eat. Saw a cute mexican food restaurant and decided to dine their first. Beautiful, Clean, well put together place. Nice salsa bar. Ordered two chicken tacos, and one carne asada taco. The order came out. Never seen chicken that look like mashed potatoes soaked in some red sauce. But I figured, can't go wrong with mexican food. Until I tried it, and it was disgusting. I asked if I can exchange for another asada taco. And I was told. " we can't use that taco, and we will not replace ". where do they do they do that? Bad service Bad food. Will NEVER COMEBACK here again.

Food was really yummy, and was made fast. It is counter service so you order when you come in and wait for your order to be called. If it was table service or at least had some chips and salsa and waters on the table it would have been 5 stars. But the enchiladas were yummy and I would come back.
