I was so excited when this opened. I loved visiting a Zao in Salt Lake when ever I was in town and wished for one here. Now I have it, I love it. I could easily eat here ever week.

Went to try it. Frankly was not impressed. Think of it as chipotle meets Panda Express. All basically the same thing. The bowl I had was steak and chicken and a side of potstickers. Sadly the potstickers were the only good thing. The chicken and steak was dry and I barely was given a scoop of each. Talk about extreme portioning on the protein.
Staff service was ok, but honestly the vibe was way off there. Honestly if you want good Asian food go local which is sad cuz a lot have been closing. Zao’s impression sadly did not convince me that this was good. I don’t think I will return if this is how you’re gonna cook the food

First and for most I would like to say the food was amazing, very delicious and enjoyable. I would love to give 5 stars but I am adding to the list of several people that say the portions are mediocre. It feels like they’re giving customers a plate decoration when it comes to the toppings. Demonstrating cheap/frugal actions in a restaurant does not earn business. I will be back again but I hope management realizes that this is an ongoing issue that is complained about and I hope they’d consider fulfilling customers needs especially at the price they charge.

Update ** We’ve come back to visit twice since opening and the food is just as delicious! However, the protein portions are embarrassingly small. My review would drop to 3 stars if not for the high quality which I feel like bumps it to 4 starts. We got the burrito one of the times for my kids and there were about 2 tablespoons of the shredded pork and the edges of the tortilla were rock hard. I’m also disappointed about the upcharge for yakisoba noodle base because it bumps up the bowls into sit-down restaurant pricing. It was about $45 for 3 dishes which is too steep for a fast casual restaurant in my opinion, especially with small protein portions. If price isn’t as big of a concern then I still recommend this place because you can tell how fresh everything is! And I still
love the green curry sauce!**

Original review:
I can’t wait to make this a regular stop. It’s the healthy / chipotle version of Panda and I’m here for it!!! I’ve tried both the sesame and green curry sauces and they were great. Love all the fresh veggie options. The guacamole is good quality. Also who knew corn was good on an Asian bowl? Don’t knock it til you try it. The protein portion is hit or miss depending on who’s behind the counter is my only constructive criticism. I also don’t recommend the burrito Zao’s way (with the rice noodles - too wet) instead opt for rice as the base. The workers were all so friendly!

I’ve always enjoyed zaos and enjoyed its gf options while traveling. I was so excited to hear they were coming to the valley. I have celiac so typically just notify the staff and they change gloves without asking. The first experience was wonderful. Today I noticed the staff and nothing happened so I asked for a glove change. He let me know that was unnecessary and huffed about it and finally changed the gloves. The rest of the line was informed of the allergy but no one willingly changed their gloves. The orders in front of me were wraps and tacos containing gluten, so my bowl got contaminated. I understand it’s not a guaranteed gf experience, but I’ve always appreciated the effort before now. Sad to think this won’t be on my list of safe, preferred places anymore.

This is such a nice change up from my typical fast-casual rotation. I loved how fast the service is, it’s similar to a Chipotle ordering process. I got the teriyaki chicken brown rice bowl. The flavor was great, and the veggies had a nice crunch. I loved the crispy onions on top!

My wife and I tried out Zao last week—fantastic new spot in Meridian. Food was fantastic—Zao feels like a blend of the “health restaurant style” found in Cafe Zupas with an Asian grill twist similar to Panda Express. My only complaint was that garbages were overflowing and we did not have a place to throw away our trash—other customers started stacking their trash around the bins due to the lack of cleaning from the restaurant staff.

My bowl was ruined by a excessive amount of dressing being added. Please train staff to not add a overflowing scoop of dressing or ask the customer how much they want.

Busy place, people out the door! Having been to Zao in another state, our expectations were high. Food was just what we expected, hot fresh, and healthy. Not much seating to choose from. Seemed expensive for just two people eating at fast casual.
