The food and service was really good here.

I got a Monster Burger (two patties, pulled pork, and coleslaw on a burger bun) and some beans, and my friend got a rack of ribs. All of it was really good and and the meats were super tender with that nice smoky flavor.

The owner and staff stopped by several times to make sure we were all good on everything and were very pleasant.

If your looking for BBQ in Mountain Home or just driving through, I recommend it for sure.

We ordered delivery during a giant snow storm, and the food still arrived quickly and was still hot and fresh! The delivery driver was so kind and friendly too. Everything was reasonably priced.
The pulled pork nachos were amazing! The pork is so smoky and has just enough heat. The portions are very generous.

Mac and cheese bites with fries were perfect for the kids - they give them a 10/10 score.

And the cat fish.... it was the best we have had in Idaho! Paired with the perfectly spicy Cajun Mac and cheese and the rich smoky black-eyed peas, this meal was incredibly satisfying.

My only disappointment is that we didn't take the time to dine in person.

First impression was intimidating due to the prices. Then discovered it was totally worth it! The portions are huge! My partner ordered their monster burger and it was truly a beast!first of all it was two hamburger patties with smoked pulled pork and bbq sauce and cold slaw. Doesn’t sound too much right? I was wrong! They don’t skimp on the toppings for this burger and it came out totally deliciously packed with meat! My partner attacked it for a good 5 mins and it looked like he barley even touched it! A taste of Texas found the bottom of the bottomless pit for sure! The food was so good he had to call his brother to let him know and he is planning to come back with his brother who is a even bigger bottomless pit! Let’s talk about taste. You know some places claim they smoke their meat and there is a hint of it. That is not the case here the meat is perfectly smoked like a match made in heaven and gives you that wonderful summer time feel which we all need while the weather outside is so muggy with rain. Trust me your taste buds will be singing for joy when you taste the not dry but moistly perfect cooked meat they serve at a taste of Texas. So let’s talk about dessert we got their banana pudding. IT IS WORTH IT!!!! It is not like normal banana pudding with just the banana flavored pudding and whipped cream. They put it in a waffle cup that you can use to eat with your pudding top it with vanilla wafers whip cream and crumbles! Don’t forget they serve it with fresh slices of banana! So it is really banana pudding with real banana not just the flavor banana. It is truly worth it going to the local mom and pop shops like this because you get that personal experience and excellent hospitality that none of the bigger franchises can even recreate! The owner is definitely a hands on owner. She is not one that starts a project and disappears. I am suspecting she is there every day to help and share the love of the place she started. She is there to meet and greet and the is wonderful! If you ever are stuck on the menu she can definitely give some really good recommendations on what to get on the menu and the would not steer you down the wrong path. Over all you will not leave this place unsatisfied and they do have to go boxes if you can’t finish your food😁 I look forward to watch how much this place is going to grow❤️

I'm a Texas native and my hubby is an Idahoan, born and raised in Mtn Home.
We frequent this quaint town often coming from Boise. This restaurant location is near and dear to us as it's been many different restaurants over the past 50 years.
The new owners have made the space open and inviting with space for large groups. They also added in cozy velvet lined booth seating, and there is enough room for everyone. Our family fights over the booth seating. We didn't need to fight here. There is more than enough space to go around.

Now down to the food. Like others, we order everything off the menu. The brisket and rids were our absolute favorite. We bought the "special of the day" and for only $30 we recieved enough meat ( ribs, brisket, and pulled pork) for two adults with left overs. It also came with two medium sides.

I mentioned we ordered more, bit the special alone was all we really needed. At that price point we could have not been happier.
Our daughter enjoyed the brisket Mac and Cheese. She stated that it was a smidgen watery from the brisket moisture, but over all the dish was delicious.
On to the sides, home made BBQ sauce and sweet tea.

Remembrr I am a Texas native. We also have family in TX, LA, AL,GA, and FL. If we were not true southerners I don't know who would be. We know our food from each state and each one has their own flair.

They offer Cajun style and southern style.
Fried okra, Cajun Mac and Cheese, green beans with ham hock, fried pickles, and the list goes on. What is on the menu doesn't stop there. They have more goodies listed on the whiteboard as you walk in. Like cheese curds and their to die for desserts.
Trust me, get one of everything and a tip,
The medium, aka "premium " sides, are large portions that can feed 2-3 people, so $7 is no biggy.

We were stuffed and had more than enough food still to take home, but we had to try their dessert.

They had 3 on the menu that Saturday. Mixed berry cheesecakes, banana pudding, and Beignet's. See, I told yall they covered many areas. A week later, yall, I am still dreaming about the banana pudding.
It was fresh, no boxed mix here.
The beignets came out not as you expect, square pillows of greatness, but rather little straws that even little children could enjoy without a huge mess or sugar high.

Ok, I digress. The owner and assumed staff member (forgive me if I'm wrong) were the only two working on a Saturday @ almost 3pm. We had the restaurant to ourselves and the service was impeccable.
We gladly purchased more than we needed to first off try everything and secondly support a small business.

I hope this place is around for a while as we will keep coming back.

They also own a food truck, so keep an eye out!

Sorry, there are no photos we dove in to quickly, hahahaha

Ordered the Catfish Plate which came with two sides. I chose the Cajun Rice and Potato Salad which happens to be mustard based. I specify that because I normally don’t like mustard potato salads, but this one was GREAT!

Service was quick. The food was fresh and tasty. EVERYTHING had flavor. And the portions are large! So worth it!

I almost forgot the green beans. Nice chunks of ham hock in there. And even with there being fat in it, it was cooked so well, it melted in your mouth and gave a lot of extra flavor! Of course, if that’s not your thing, you can always easily fish it out.

I haven’t had soul food that was THAT good this far North in a long time. And the staff are incredibly kind and hospitable. Give this place a try!

Great customer service friendly and caring staff and it's a family friendly restaurant not to mention AMAZING food I unfortunately don't have teeth anymore so my food choices are very limited due to that and food allergies but I had the brisket and it was so tender so I had absolutely no issues eating it.
Also they have by far the best sweet tea in mountain home it's not so sweet to where you would need to get a root canal done after drinking it so that's a plus! The sweetness is absolutely perfect just like the staff they are so friendly and sweet so If you want some southern cooking go to the taste of Texas you won't be disappointed!
One last thing their cajion style Mac n cheese is delicious but it most definitely has a kick to it oh and make sure to try their homemade BBQ sauce and if you love it as much as I did you can also purchase some to take home!!!
And if you fall in love with their sweet tea you can also purchase that too however it's upon request and it's usually ready within 24 hours to pick up I know that most everyone is used to getting things instantly but something that has a lot of love put into it and is homemade takes time but it's worth the wait trust me!!

I recently dined at A Taste of Texas with my family of eight adults, and we ordered nearly one of everything on the menu.

I can confidently say that every single dish was outstanding! There were no complaints from anyone—each person found something to rave about. The catfish was perfectly fried, and the sandwiches were incredibly flavorful. The sides were spot-on and complemented the main dishes perfectly.

But what really stole the show were the cheesecakes. With several varieties available, they truly outshine even those from the Cheesecake Factory.

If you’re looking for a place with exceptional food and delicious desserts, I highly recommend A Taste of Texas.

It’s a must-visit for anyone who loves great food!

We stopped in for lunch today. My wife had a chicken sandwich and the potato salad. She was greatly suprised on how large the chicken sandwich was. So much so that she took half of it with us for a snack later on. She loved the very large portion of potato salad, and I gave it a quick taste and totally agreed on how tasty the potato salad was.

I had their daily special chicken wings with coleslaw and Mac N' cheese sides. I love coleslaw, and this was very, very good and the first to disappear followed my the Mac N' cheese, which added a lottle hot sauce to before it disappeared also. The chicken wings were the entire wing, flat, drumstick, and tips. There were in excess of nine of these that I also treated with a splash of hot sauce...excellent!

For all this lovely food, the cost was very reasonable.

The fine woman who served us was the owner and we were treated like royalty, even though we were from another State and only in Mountain Home overnight.

We'll be returning to Mountain Home in another two months and for sure will stop in here for a lunch.
