Worst experience ever . Ordered salads and prime rib entree. They brought everything at once the salad had no dressing and no taste, the tomato soup had no taste either. The server did not know how to stage the meal in courses, which he admitted due to lack of training. The prime rib was sent back it was medium rare, when they brought it bac later it was grey and well done . The whole experience was the worst. On top of that the manager could have cared less and did nothing, what bad experience. Don't eat there.

As usual, our meal at Gretchen's was outstanding. My husband had the halibut special and side Caesar and I had my favorite meal which is stir fry vegetables and cashews with chicken. Desert was a decadent chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Gretchen's is our favorite restaurant in Sun Valley.

Food was not great - especially for the price. Service was lackluster. Waitress was very nice but gave us the wrong menu - rather than tell us and ask us to reselect an option based on the correct menu, she simply chose a similar dish for one of us. A dish we never would have chosen. When told about the mistake she didn't offer to get us something else. She did end up comping us the entree but we did not enjoy it. Food felt like conference center food.

We came on Valentine's Day. Restaurant Seemed short staffed. My food came before my husbands. We did get complimentary chocolate covered strawberries and the wine pours were big, which was nice. We weren't in a hurry but did notice some other customers frustrated with service. We didn't care so much and the food was excellent

Love the decor, ambiance, low lighting, huge booth my husband and I shared, and the waiter was very nice. Plus, the food was so delicious! Been coming here for years and have always enjoyed the experience.

Had a family dinner during the holidays at Gretchen's in the Sun Valley Resort hotel. We were pleasantly surprised by the great food and service. It may have been the best overall meal we had during the entire trip. The staff was also incredibly detail-oriented and attentive, which made the entire experience even more enjoyable.

Mara from Croatia was a spectacular server here. Very repondant to refills and checking the quality of out experience. Justin delivered our delicious chili & Salad meals promptly and steaming hot. Thank you for the excellent lunch in the snow covered village. Plus the lavender gin drop was on point and perfect cocktail to warm me up!

Reservation was for outside but when we arrived we were told they were not sitting outside because it was too cold (it was in the 70s, but ok)...than we saw them repeatedly sitting people outside. So rude and not professional.

My wife and I were here for lunch and got Poke Ahi Tuna Natchos for an appetizer which was huge and super tasty. We were pretty much full after appetizer that we had to share an Entry (The Rachel) which was also great; haven't had turkey breast thinly sliced and grilled before, that was really good lunch. Five start no doubt.

Like all Sun Valley restaurants, the food is excellent, and Gretchen's was no different. The covered patio is amazing, food great. However, the service was severely lacking. Though our server was kind and personable, she was not attentive. Our salad plates had to be removed by the individual bringing our dinner (literally swapping plates). Thankfully the food was good and prepared correctly because it was 15 minutes after the meal was delivered that she checked on us. There were four of us, and it took over an hour to get our meal. While it was Labor Day weekend, it wasn't overly busy and I saw other servers who were properly taking care of their tables. I would return; however, I would taper my expectations on the service and I'd plan for a two hour dinner.
Service was notably professional and excellent. Despite having arrived early, when only one other table was occupied, our party of three was seated at a table right on the main pathway into and out of the kitchen, which made the experience less enjoyable with the constant traffic of busy servers going in and out.

Gretchen's has terrific crab cakes, specials (often beef and fish), burgers, and a Reuben sandwich takeoff called The Rachel (made with turkey...). Its indoor venue is relatively quiet (a respite for those whose ears are assaulted by most of Sun Valley's other good restaurants), and its huge outdoor patio overlooks the outdoor ice rink. They also use the bar staff of The Duchin Room, so cocktails are excellent.
