The food was good but can take a while to be served if they are busy! If you’re split between getting chicken or filet mignon steaks: I’d go with chicken with pasta! The steak is good but can taste a bit too salty.
As a heads up: They can be stingy about giving bread pieces! And there are different menus options for lunch vs. dinner time.
Their lasagna wasn’t the best as one to the last layer of the cheese was not even melted but it tasted okay and I was very hungry. I feel like for an Italian restaurant , the lasagna could have been better.
They have both inside and outside sitting! The out side view is gorgeous but if it’s during evening time, there could be lots of bugs like fungus gnats and flies which is a bit less on the side with tomatoes plants! So I’d recommend inside for evening time for more comfort unless you do not mind the bugs!

We walked by and the smell drew us in. Everything is fresh made. The ceasar salad was crispy, savory and lightly dressed with homemade croutons. So good! We split the lemon pesto pasta with chicken. Again so good! Prices were excellent too. Huge beer menu.

I would argue that this is the best food in North Idaho. We stopped in for lunch and loved it so much that we came back for dinner. On top of the food being phenomenal, the staff was so friendly and engaging. Will definitely be a stop for us every time we visit Wallace.

We had dinner on Saturday 8/30/25 and made a reservation for early in the evening. The food and wine were ok. The service was a bit inattentive (busy night for a small town cafe). The staff were nice but I think mainly the work flow needs improvement. This is true of the cafe/coffee/milkshake side of the cafe during lunch as well where multiple staff (3) are completely engrossed in filling orders and repeatedly ignore people trying to buy items for sale (little gourmet food items, water/drinks in a cooler). I watched people ahead of me wait and wait to buy something and get fed up, put their water back in the refrigerator, and leave because all three staff just repeatedly ignored them. It would help if one person should be running the register/taking orders then helping only needed while 2 fill orders.

I am old enough to remember the last stoplight on Interstate 90 being sunsetted in Wallace, Idaho.  Besides shaking my 10 year old fist in frustration as we drove by because I could no longer talk my parents into stopping for ice cream there with the light gone, I have only happened to drop in to Wallace in my adult life a few times for an emergency gallon of gas until I could make it to Post Falls.

Now, I drive through Wallace to go to other places and do different things than the little berg has to offer.  Yesterday was not one of those occasions, and my passing through is not to hike or ski or visit family but to see a medical specialist in Spokane because I am struggling with serious illness. We stopped because we were tired, and that's frankly the only reason. The Blackboard Cafe looked inviting so we ducked in.

One of the consequences of this ailment is that I cannot taste food or sometimes even smell it.  For me, this is by definition torture. I am by all standards a dedicated foodie, so this experience is beyond awful and depressing.

Last night, for the first time in 6 months, I was able to smell, taste, and truly enjoy the best chicken alfredo I have ever had in my life at the Blackboard Cafe.  I have no words for how special this was for me.   Saying, umm, oooo, ahhh, to a hearty and rustic plate of pasta is truly magic.  Followed up with a delectable slice of carrott cake and ginger peach tea served in dainty china tea cups, that took the cake!

I am grateful to the owners, chefs, and staff at the Blackboard Cafe for understanding the role that a comforting meal plays in our life. Whether is for romance, or enterainment, and even how food can heal us even if it's only for an evening.

Served in an eclectic building with a well curated used book store next door and outdoor store selling gear that looks as good for lounging as it does for rafting the Clark Fork, what more can I say.

Oh I had the claims too, to die for.  And yes, I will be back in Wallace more often going forward but it won't be so I can get enough fuel to crawl to Love's in Post Falls or get questionable soft service at a convience mart.

Blackboard is a cute little small restaurant! They have outdoor seating as well as indoor. They have a full menu as well as smaller for food items. Staff was warm and welcoming and was a very relaxing environment!

Wasn’t expecting much but this place is amazing! Excellent food (I had fish and chips, which were flavorful and crispy), friendly service, extensive beer (and milkshake) options, and dog friendly outside seating make this place a total win. I hope to be back in the future!
