Was looking forward to some queso. Well we found out the hard way that the recipe changed today.

The queso was chunky cottage cheese like. It wasn’t creamy at all. Tasted stale and lacked richness and flavor.

As the queso was a major reason for our visits, will likely not return.

The food is tasty. Absulutely love their salsa. Their chips don't get stale even after a month (yes, I put them on a shelf and forgot about them).

We come here about once a month. The food and service is great everytime. Cindy is always friendly and strives to provide the best experience possible. We will be back again!

I visited on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, my first time back in quite a few months. I was very impressed with the Taco Tuesday deal going on here. The tacos were cheap and delicious. They were busy but the service was quick and our server was awesome. We got an amazing chocolate brownie fudge dish for dessert and overall the experience was great and I cannot wait to come back. I should get out in Algonquin more often.

Doesn’t hit the same like it used to too

Bar top was dirty from one end to another. Had to request it be wiped down so we could sit there, and first person basically brushed it off to tell us another person would be back shortly to handle. I mean to have to ask two people to attend to a totally unappealing mess all over the bar! No one was even sitting there, it was empty and only a few bar top tables had people there. The food was OK, but for the price, there are better options in the area. Unfortunately, this was the second time we have been disappointed here.

If you enjoy dining with ants crawling on your table, eat here. Restaurant is extremely dirty, which explains the ant problem. Walls, menus, table were very dirty, sticky and had food on them. After we had killed 3 ants on our table, we asked to be moved. Our server moved us to another booth. After a few minutes of being in the new booth, we had an ant crawling on our table. This is now the only On the Border location that remains in Illinois. I can truly see why the business is struggling. It is not appealing to have bugs crawling on your table while having dinner. We will not return. Sadly, the management here did not care about our concerns in the survey we completed. They just thanked us for bringing the issue to their attention.
