Morrison’s Irish Pub – Alton, IL 🍀

We finally stopped into Morrison’s and it delivered that cozy, old-world Irish pub charm you want when you walk through those doors.

I had the Irish cheese sandwich, Justin went with the corned beef — and both were genuinely good. Comforting, hearty, and exactly what you hope for in a pub meal.

Now… the kitchen was moving a bit slow this visit. Was it noticeable? Yes.
Was it worth the wait? Also yes.

Because Sam — the female bartender — absolutely made the experience. Fun, engaging, and the kind of personality that makes you feel like you’re already a regular even if it’s your first visit. That kind of service turns a “slow day” into a good memory.

The menu is packed with authentic Irish favorites, and honestly, next time we’re absolutely going to lean fully into the classics — because this feels like a place that does traditional comfort food right.

One small wish: I really wish they made their own chips. The bagged chips were a little lackluster and felt like a missed opportunity next to an otherwise hearty, made-with-care menu.

Overall: a great spot that was likely just having an off day — and still absolutely worth your time.

Don’t leave without ordering the pear cider.
It is absolutely fabulous. Bright, crisp, lightly sweet, and dangerously drinkable. ✨

We’ll be back — and we’re coming hungry.

This is a little sweet spot for some good old fashioned Irish Pub vibes. The food is wonderful and the atmosphere while crowded tells you this is a popular place to be. I wish I could have stayed longer into the evening but even late afternoon was a hot spot. Got out of there just as a big bus pulled up. The only negative I have is the place smells a bit. The service was fast and friendly even with a ton of questions. Will definitely go back. Also, they had live music. Nothing big but a plus for sure. Just some easy listening while eating.

Surprisingly smokey. We left because it was so strong. The waitresses were very kind.

Can't beat Bubble and Squeek (cabbage soup.) Anything with corned beef is also good. They reluctantly serve Baileys, rightly preferring Irish whiskey.

Slow service, overcooked and bland food. Get a drink and enjoy the ambience but can’t recommend anything we ordered. Really wanted to like this one 🥀

Loved the food, great service, but I’d be nice to have more than seating for maximum 20-25 people. Wasted entirely too much time driving here just to have every seat be filled and it’s been almost every time, and the time we did get in we waited for 20 minutes.

Morrison's is absolutely fantastic. Great place to listen to some casual live Irish music, the food genuinely delicious with a truly comfortable, cozy ambience, and the staff is amazing.

Edit- Updated Experience
I hesitated posting this but the encounter bothered me so much I have to.
Unfortunately, my most recent visit was very different and I genuinely feel like I somehow offended their new server before looking at them. I sat for an hour during a show without any acknowledgement (or even a glance; not one single time) so instead of closing out the night like usual, I ended up leaving.

The only interaction was the server taking my empty plate in passing, while cheerfully seating a new table just inches from mine still acting like I'd mastered invisibility.

If customers aren’t supposed to go to the bar from tables to order, what's the course of action when a server literally (by definition) ignores you the entire time?
I really hope i caught that person on an off night because Morrison’s had been one of my favorite spots, which was the only reason I still tipped. Shoutout to the bartender for printing my bill for me.

The perfect Irish Pub in Illinois, Alton to be exact. Even if you're not Irish you are welcome here. The food is great, the drinks are better, and on nights when they have live music, you never want to leave.

Good vibes and a solid food and drink menu. I got the cottage pie and the flavors were good, but it could have been seasoned better. The chips had a really interesting tang to them! I highly recommend. Our waitress was super cool and it’s a great low-key place to grab a bite or a drink in Alton.

We love this bar but we always come 2 hours before closing and they always close early and say last call

Great concept but poorly executed. Since we had never been to this establishment before and since we were driving 27 miles to get there, I called ahead to get some information. I asked her what time the band started and if they had any weekend specials since we were going on a Saturday. She informed me that the band started at 6:00, the special was a Smashburger and that a tour group was arriving and she suggested we get there before 5:30. We arrived around 5:15 and as the establishment is extremely small (total seating including the bar area is about 30 people) we were able to get the last two seats available at the bar. There were no tables available even though there was a table and two unused chairs up in the stage area that could have been used for more seating. When we ordered our food we were told that they were completely out of mashed potatoes! Seriously, at an Irish Pub you're out of mashed potatoes? She did not tell me this when I called. One of the food menu items we went there for specifically was the colcannon. We were also told that our food order would be at least an hour since the tour group had ordered all at once and there was only one cook in the kitchen! We ordered our food and replaced the colcannon and boxty with regular potato chips. While we were waiting for our meal we saw two tables served with mashed potatoes on their plates! We were immediately upset. When our food finally did come it was okay, nothing to write home about. And then while we were eating our dinner we saw another table served with mashed potatoes! This led us to leave a 5% tip not that we wanted to leave any tip at all but our server who was greatly overwhelmed with customers did a good job. The band was fun but I was disappointed to find out that they didn't know any of the traditional Irish songs that I requested. They actually said they had never heard of these songs before. My stepfather was an Irishman and I've heard all the authentic Irish songs as that is all he listened to. I did not recognize any of the songs that this band played, it just sounded like Irish songs with Irish Tunes.

My suggestions for improvements for this establishment are as follows: have enough staff to serve your customers, have enough food to serve your customers, and if you're going to call yourself an Irish Pub, be one properly. We won't be back.
