“Amazing martinis and mixed drinks complemented by a large selection of varieties of whiskey, bourbon and scotch -- all served by wonderful, attentive wait staff. I love coming here again and again to have a nice scotch on the rocks and relax with friends.”
“This little corner cafe is a great hidden gem in the heart of downtown Alton! The atmosphere is wonderful, and so is the food love that we are supporting a local small business and the people that run it are very pleasurable to deal with! Come check this place out Alton!!!”
“Spontaneous drop I'm. What a GEM? !! We had regular and seafood gumbo, red beans and rice and corn bread. All outstanding. Looking forward to trying the entire menu.”
“Excellent service. Excellent atmosphere. Excellent food. Excellent drinks.Parking: Street parking in front of restaurant and street parking nearby. Circled the block 3 times before finding an available spot.Wheelchair accessibility: Steps inside restaurant.”
“A lovely little spot to stop into, might be greeted by a doggo, find amazing conversation, make friends, play with chalk art, and be scolded by a teacher (playfully... I think...)Wine list is by the glass, can also purchase the bottle and enjoy it at a hightop table or one of the amazing lower conversational chairs.Mr. Bunbury would be most pleased with the location and fare.”
“This is a perfect good ol'tavern. Exactly what I like if I go to have a drink. Bartender s are great, atmosphere is fun and friendly, it's a cheers for the motorcycle club and friends. Always a good time. Sam and Woody are not serving you it Missy, Michelle, or as they call Cheyenne " the new girl" you can't go wrong with any of the three. And if you are lucky enough to run into Elliot or some other regular faces, you have a great day ahead!”
“This place is delicious. Everything each of us had was great. Prime rib was great. Fried chicken was great. Fettuccine was good. Can't wait to go back! No wonder they have been in business since 1937!”
“I got a chance to talk to the owner. I understood really quick what the place was about and she loves her customers. Good food. Good atmosphere. The best Irish coffee just like you will find in Ireland. I'm quickly making this one of my go to spots.”
“I've been here a few times and enjoyed it both times. The ambiance is a lil upscale but also casual enough that you don't feel underdressed (even if you show up in sweats like me lol). They have a nice bar area and a dining room. I've sat in the dining room during all of my visits. Service has always been friendly and efficient.Their menu has a good selection. I really enjoyed the meatball sub and onion petals. I've also had the cheesesteak and really liked it. My friend that I go with has liked everything they've ordered.Parking can be hard to find if it's a busy time of day and the parking garage is very small and narrow/hard to navigate. I also don't enjoy that depending on where you sit there can be lots of traffic around you. Last time we were close to the door where the food comes out and there was constant movement with food going around us.”
“We have been going to Gentelin's for about 10 years and the food is consistently excellent. My wife and I were there last night and we both had the filet mignon. I also ordered a crab stuffed portabella mushroom to complement my steak. Talk about YUM! Ryan is the owner and chef, and he takes personal ownership in maintaining the outstanding quality of the food. He also has a special talent of bringing together the right ingredients to make each menu item wonderful. A recent example is the Crabmeat Stuffed Chicken - to die for! The salads are also very good and they offer a $5.00 appetizer from time to time, last night's was Philly Cheesesteak wontons, yummy and very creative! The food always comes out in a timely manner and is always the right temperature. They also have a very good beer, wine, and drink selection too. Ryan has assembled a GREAT team and Beth is our regular server. She is outstanding, professional, and very attentive to our needs. We have had other servers when Beth isn't there and they too are top notch. The restaurant offers a beautiful view of the Mississippi river for added ambience. So if you are in Alton and looking for great food, Gentelin's is the place for you!”
“My husband and I spent a day in Alton and this was one of the places we stopped. The building itself is huge. There is a lot of seating and it is an open space. They have a good size beer selection and they offer cans to go. This was nice since most microbreweries don't have cans to go. My husband and I just went for the drinks so we didn't get food even though they offer some. When we are back in Alton just hanging out we will be back!”
“Pizza is St. Louis thin crust and fabulous. Best pizza ever!! Greek salad with house dressing is fresh and delicious. That dressing is THE most flavorful and satisfying.”
“Place is really nice and clean Amber was our server friendly and everything was on point she always make sure you’re good with drinks and everything it’s a good place to ”
“First off all the food that I've had here has always been excellent I've never had anything that I've had to actually send back. I even had one day where they didn't have jalapenos for the carne asada steak but I was completely fine with it because everything still tasted amazing. My server was courteous and spot on and every time that I come there I'm so happy that I found my place for my favorite cuisine.”
“It's a lot bigger on the inside then I had expected. My friend and I went there on my weekend we've been trying to eat there but the timings never worked out till last Thursday. We had a wonderful waitress, my friend ordered a small pizza which was the perfect size for her. I ordered some buffalo chicken bombs which were tasty I'ma totally order the bacon cheese burger bombs next time, for my main app I got the Cajun chicken and sausage Alfredo it came of course the chicken and sausage as well as sauteed onions plus bell peppers my all time fav.Every piece of food was delicious definitely better then Macs tbh. I wonder what, I'ma get next time I stop by Alton.”
“The breadsticks look delicious! I look forward to enjoying them. I am certain that they will be tasty and so good to eat. Thank you for the opportunity.Parking: The parking was very easy. There were plenty of parking spaces. Not a problem at all.”
“The food was really good all things considered. My only complaint is that the Brussels sprouts appetizer was mainly burnt single leaves that were hard to enjoy. the full brussel sprouts that were present were great though! Highly recommend the Olga bread.”
“My spouse and I had a late lunch here today and it was amazing! Our server was very friendly and attentive. This is the best Mexican food in the area. I had quesabirria and it was full of flavor and very tender with delicious consume. The chips and salsa are the best I have had at any restaurant. The chips are thick and crunchy and the salsa is amazing. Some say it is spicy, but I definitely think it's mild (but I do eat rather spicy food regularly so others may not be used to any spice?). Do not drive by this little gem on College Ave.! Stop in and order some of the best Mexican dishes in the Metro East!”
“Food was good, the guy behind the counter ( i assume was the owner) was even better. He seemed to be a genuinely good guy. I will defiantly eat there again.Note: Web-sight description says " dine in" , however, I did not see any dinning room or tables. That was not a problem, just thought I would mention it.Thanks (to the "guy behind the counter") ,Kevin”
“This is definitely a hidden gem that is a must go to! It is set in an old building with natural hardwood floors and a view of the river. Beautiful quilts are hung throughout and the restaurant is meticulously clean! The staff were constantly cleaning tables and keeping on top of everything. The Pulled Pork Sandwich was tender and flavorful. The Turkey Club was absolutely delicious with fresh lettuce and tomatoes. We had the Turtle Pie and Toll House Brownies for dessert which were both incredible. A table near us had carrot cake and it looked amazing too! Our service was also great! Everyone was very friendly!”
“Have been to Tony's many times, usually very good. Our food last Friday night was lukewarm, 3 of 4 meals, one was a salad. Quietly called server over, she was quite upset and offered many things. As I said usually quite good, we didn't want anything. She finally convinced us to take a dessert to go. I appreciate how professional she was and apologetic, not her fault. We will continue to patronize Tony's because food is usually very good, but our service was exceptional. Buy local☺️”
“Macs will not disappoint. It's hard to grasp how they can consistently put out such high-quality food for such a low price. The breakfast buffet absolutely slaps. All you can eat prime rib? Endless shrimp? What more could you ask for?Kid-friendliness: My kids love it here”
“We always go for Walt's shrimp special. But it's not a Thursday special any more nor does it give you a drink with it. So not such a great value any more. Sad about it.”
“Delicious food, fantastic vibes, and I think I'd try anything if Melanie was telling me about it! Everyone at the table loved their meal, and we look forward to going back.”
