No Soup for You!!!! Had dinner at Jameson's last night (3-16-2024). My spouse does not eat dairy. A soup was offered for her meal. Both choices had dairy ingredients. When asked to substitute a salad, we were informed it would cost 3.00. So, no soup for spouse, no salad for spouse. No credit on check for no soup. My wife is not the only person who does not eat dairy. Restaurant showed no flexibiity. While food and service were OK, we will not be back to Jameson's due to their policy. We had been semi-regular patrons, but, no more. The restaurant should offer a soup selection without dairy! Sorry Jameson's you've lost a customer. Your new policy of not substituting something for what a patron can not eat has turned us away.

So I learned tonight that each location has autonomy over itself and some do some things while others do not. Case in point, my wife wanted to get Baked French Onion soup instead of the regular French Onion soup. The difference is that the baked has cheese melted over top and is baked in an oven. The latter has a large crouton and some grated parmesan on top, they are not the same as the baked is better. This location would not do an up-charge, they just would charge you for the baked version as if it was a separate order. I ordered the Chicken Lemon Basil and upgraded to a double baked potato. They gave me a loaded double baked (more of an up charge) and the sauce on my chicken was that of the chicken picante without the mushrooms. You may be asking yourself, "well, what's the difference?" The difference is that the Chicken Lemon Basil comes in a lemon basil sauce and the Picante comes in a white wine, lemon and mushroom sauce. There were no 'shrooms, but it tasted like white wine and lemon (and the former has no white wine and includes basil and there was no basil). I flagged our server down and let her know that it was the wrong sauce on my chicken, but let her know I was fine with it, but wanted to let her know that her cooks/chef messed up the order with both the sauce and the potato. She said the main chef wasn't there and that it was a different person. You know, that doesn't really matter to me except that the guy leading the kitchen isn't following the recipes for the menu items...they may want to know that. Lastly, when we arrived, we let them know we had a reservation. I forgot to mention that they have a host/hostess stand/cubicle with two people where you would normally announce your arrival. Instead, the two people working behind the cubicle are only dealing with to-go orders and food delivery app pick-ups. There is a different person who stands outside the cubicle with an iPad like tablet who is there to check your party in. We did that and then she stood there and said, "he'll be back in a moment to seat you." What is her role exactly then? They just leave you standing there waiting while the floor manager does whatever the hell he is doing (in our case, he was checking to make sure the servers shirts were tucked into their pants) until he comes to seat you. Then why is there someone standing there with a tablet? This guy can't do both jobs? It doesn't seem like it's a job that requires two people to do. I'm not here to get someone fired, but if he's busy, maybe the person checking us in could seat us. You're just left standing there in the way of people coming and going from the restaurant and to/from the bathroom. It was quite ridiculous. The other main difference between this location and other Jameson's is that they give you both soup and salad, potato and vegetable with your meal. The one in Vernon Hills gives you soup OR salad with potato and vegetable. And I agree with another person's review regarding how much people love this place versus so many other steak places in the Chicagoland area. You get a lot of food for the price, but is it better than a true steakhouse? Nope. But if you're looking for value, then Jameson's is the place to go.

Jameson's Original Charhouse is the best run restaurant around. Outstanding Menu with lots og great choices and at fair prices (where do you automatically get soulp and salad with your meal these days) and excellent food. The service is over the top. Well managed restaurant that must have one fantastic training system. Complimentary Valet parking. This time we were seated near the bar with live entertainment and the group was fantastic. Just added to the great dining experience.

My husband and I were looking for a nice steak dinner to celebrate our anniversary and this was the perfect spot! I'm not quite sure why it is rated so low because we had a great experience. I ordered the New York strip dinner and he went with the ribeye. Both dinners came with soup, salad and bread. We got French onion soup and cream of chicken and rice. Both soups were great. The salad was fresh and both ranch and thousand island dressings were tasty. My husband loved his ribeye steak. It was juicy, tender and cooked just right. His was definitely better than my New York strip. Mine was okay. It was on the tough side and had more fat on it. The baked potato and broccoli were nice sides. Our server was very prompt and friendly. The food was really good. I would have given 5 stars if it weren't for the water. Both of our waters tasted like strong chemicals. It was terrible. If they fixed that, this place would be 5 star worthy.

Always a favorite over the years, you get ala carte choices (soup, salad, sides) plus the main meal for a great price, the steaks are superb. A great venue to get together with friends, the bar is packed with regulars, prices are great. There can be a wait at times even with a reservation due to the popularity but it is not long. There are other locations but this one is my favorite.

If you find yourself dining here, get steak and a good bottle if wine. Calamari appetizer was good.

$18 for a Makers and Coke what a joke. The loaded baked potato had so much cheese on it that I just flipped the cheese out of the way. Not to mention the clump of bacon bits that came out of the bag from Walmart, all while being luke warm from a heat lamp! One would have gotten a better selection at Golden Corral. I will say the calamari was the best part of the meal very delicious. The salad was cold with refrigerated flavor, thus it was made earlier in the day and sat in the cold storage all day. The soup, chicken noodle was also, very good. The Filet Oscar had an excellent flavor also. The porterhouse, well it was a stake, but can't give it much more for being a “house cut”.

Our food was excellent as always. Service was outstanding. Tables were packed a bit too close together and the noise level too high. Music was playing too loud, therefore people were raising their voices in order to be heard. Simple fixes. But, because of the food and service, this will remain at the top of our list of favorite restaurants.

I was debating between a 3 and a 4, so I picked the higher rating. The food:I ate the salad, the clam chowder, whitefish, flourless chocolate cake. The portion size was big, almost too big for lunch, but who is complaining? ?The soup was delicious, perfectly seasoned. The salad was crisp, fresh with an unusually tasty dressing with a lemon ginger flavor. The fish was perfectly cooked. The cake was meh. I have had better flourless chocolate cakes. The Service:The waiters were attentive without being overwhelming. No complaints about the service. Nothing stood out.The atmosphere:A little dark and cramped. We sat in a corner room where 12 people were seated at each table, too close for comfort, elbowing each other. I wish we had a roomier place. The seating was so tight that the waiters would bring the dishes to the end of the table and we had to pass them to the end. People sitting in the middle spent the entire lunch passing meals, empty dishes, bread, butter, or salt from one end of the table to the other. I found that disturbing.

We have had good food at this restaurant in the past. We decided to go on Valentine’s Day. We were not aware that it was a limited menu (no advertisement about this ahead of time). We ordered the ny steak and the fried shrimp (at the waiter’s recommendation). The steak was tasteless and dry and the shrimp just had no taste other than the breading. We walked away disappointed and $130 dollars less in our pockets. I called the next day to talk to the manager about it. All he continued to say was that he backed his food without having any attempt to rectify the situation or help me feel better about our experience. Needless to say we will not be returning to this location and I urge others not to give this location your business. It is sad that the price of food has gone up but the quality of food and service has gone down.
