We had made a reservation on Wed by phone, and we talked to an actual person. Reservation was for that Sat. We received a confirmation text at 534pm for the 6pm reservation. Friends who had driven a distance met us there. We pulled into a dark parking lot with no workers, locked doors, and no signs/explanation posted. We called and the phone would ring 10 times and then drop. If you post a comment on their FB page under one of their recent announcements, they delete the whole post. Steer clear of this awful place. Wouldn't go back even if they reopened. Based on recent reviews it appears this place that took so much time and money to build is now history.

Food was barely edible. Wednesday night and this huge place has 2 tables. I now know why. I realize they are having “issues” but why serve beer that is warm and flat

I've been here at least a half a dozen times. Before it shutdown and was "Revamped". Unfortunately it still the same food, same prices and same over charged alcohol and food. I don't mind paying but when I have to pay for numerous mixed drinks (the price of a fifth) just to catch a buzz is the same old usual overpriced, bland food with weak drinks. First and last visit - Maybe this is good for local crowd, but it's a shame to call it a Hofbrauhaus - and PLEASE don't call this St Louis. My husband and I were excited to go to dinner- we had planned the trip for a few weeks. We were greeted by a hostess and manager who could not have been more unfriendly. Two were in our party, and the manager immediately told us when we walked in "Hour wait, at least" - no smile, actually frowning at us. My husband said, "Ok we'll just have a beer at the bar". Again, unfriendly, actually scowling, "No you won't, I had to pull the bartender to wait tables." They clearly were short staffed and seemed to be actually mad that we wanted to stay. AMAZING (sarcasm font needed) - our seats were available in 20 minutes. Our waitress then informed us that there were only three types of beer available. My husband asked if he could substitute mashed potatoes for his potato salad and her curt reply was "No." She was not much more friendly than the hostess and manager. When my husband was served his soup, the spoon was not just a teaspoon- it was an ICED tea spoon- very difficult to eat soup with considering it was made for stirring tea. He asked for a bigger spoon and was told " I'll try to find one"- what?. The gravy was not available for our meals, I had to saw the chicken it was so tough and dry. Our waitress only checked on us two times in over an hour. She did, however, have time to hang out with a very loud table next to us- even had time to "paddle" one of the men with his flight tray while they all screamed and yelled. It looked more like a buffalo wild wings or a Chuck E Cheese' with the huge space invader games and loud game room. ( Not to insult those restaurants, because they are made to have the games- they are not restaurants that are advertising as an authentic German Experience). The bathrooms were dirty- of the four soap dispensers, only one had soap. Paper towels were overflowing and all over the floor. This is NOT the typical Hofbrauhaus. We have been to a few, and this is a sad display. Don't waste your time if your looking for a German Restaurant experience. Don't waste your evening if you are even looking for a decent meal out.

The venue is great, gorgeous, and the reason it gets any stars at all.The food was frozen and reheated, and you can taste it. I don't believe there's an actual chef in the back. The beer was warm, which is fine because it's German beer and I guess they're going for authenticity, but it had almost no flavor, nor carbonation. They also haven't brewed any beer here since 2019. The "seasonal" beer was Stag. The real tragedy is the wasted potential and what it could be.

way overpriced, cold, so cold the meat had congealed grease on it. cold steamed vegetables, no flavor. the ham was that processed thin slice. just two dressings. just terrible, plus the gratuity was in the price. why, it was a buffet, all she did was bring our drinks. never going back

Came here for Sunday brunch. Had a small bloody mary and the brunch plate featuring scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links, thin fried potato slices, and two pancakes. The pancakes had a little bite to them almost like McDonalds, which I love. We all ordered the brunch plate but for one family member who ordered a breakfast sandwich and he liked it. The servers were friendly and the place was spotless. We really enjoyed our meal and plan to come back to try the Wednesday steak dinner special for $20.

Military reunion with guys I was in Germany with over 50 yrs ago. Always try to go to a “ German “ restaurant for a meal. End up at Hofbrauhaus - no matter where we go. Food was as expected. Accommodating with separate checks because of a few Alligator arms. Disappointed no band on a Sat night- All In all- a 6 1/2 on a 10 scale

Great service, discuss dining hall, the fish was amazing! And I loved the beer cheese, just wish they had more options for beer.

This 1-star review reveals the worst dining experience at Hofbräuhaus in Belleville, Illinois on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. As a party of 20 individuals walking into the establishment, we are all displeased by the lack of professionalism, hospitality, and customer service from multiple restaurant employees - including the hosts, waitress (Erica), and manager (Anne). Welcome Desk - When walking into the establishment, both hosts did not greet our party and neglected to ask if we needed to be seated. As our first time at the restaurant, it would have been appreciated to see effort from the two hosts in greeting and asking if we need help instead of watching us crowd the entrance area without assistance - especially since the restaurant was not busy and no other parties were present in the waiting area. Rather, we felt obligated to approach the hosts’ stand in order to receive service and do not appreciate the lack of hospitality upon entry. Seating - As we were escorted to a table, the hosts did not ensure that our entire party was together. We were split into three tables across the restaurant. With a total of 20 in my family, we did not appreciate that they did not provide any accommodation to keep the entire group together. We understand the possible complications with placing tables together if the restaurant was busy. However, many tables were open around us and was never provided the rationale behind separating us. Taking Order with Waitress - While placing our order with Erica, the waitress, she never mentioned the upcharge of $5 for splitting a meal onto two separate plates. Six of my family members, including myself, were splitting our meals in half across three plates as we can not finish an entire platter normally and did not want to take leftovers on our 5-hour drive home (visiting from out-of-town). This is misleading and should have been communicated to the table prior to charging us $15 on our bill. Meals Received and Waitress Response - According to the menu, the burger meal is “served on an artisan bread with traditional garnish.” When we received our meals, no condiments or “garnish” were present on any of the burgers ordered. We waited for the waitress to bring our condiments only to realize halfway through our meal that they were never coming back. When we flagged down our waitress, she proceeded to blame us for not complaining immediately. This is a lack of professionalism and should have never been an argument back to the customer in regards to missing food items when it is the responsibility of the waitress to ensure that all customers are receiving their meals accurately. Rather than questioning our understanding of a condiment, she should have been more cognizant of the food preparation prior to it arriving at the table. Manager Anne - When the manager arrived and listened to our complaints, she immediately removed the upcharges of splitting meals. The manager did not take responsibility of both Erica and the hosts’ mistakes with no apology from every employee mentioned. The transaction came off as though Anne believed we only wanted a discount when we simply were complaining about the dining experience provided by Erica and the hosts. All 20 of us are diverse working professionals from Suburban Chicago with the ability to pay for your restaurant’s bill. The lack of professionalism from this manager and her assumption that we can not afford to eat at Hofbräuhaus is appalling. Our yearly tradition is to visit the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows, which is located directly across the street. I’m sure that many visitors of this church have eaten at your restaurant. We never wanted our money back or discounts for dining; we simply expect fair and equal treatment at your restaurant and any establishment. All 20 of us did not receive high-quality service on this day and do not plan to return to your restaurant. We hope that this review reaches others to also reconsider another dining option.

We went with a group of eight people. Three small potato pancakes for $12 which I thought was overpriced. My Wiener schnitzel was pounded so thin and it was dry and the German potatoes were nothing like my family who came from Germany and made German style potatoes. German potatoes at the restaurant had so much vinegar in them that we could not eat them. I ordered a side order of Spatzel And what they brought me was rubbery like they had been left over, reheated in a microwave and seen better days. I sent it back and got a new order that was freshly made and it was a little better but still tasted rubbery. One of the ladies ordered the black forest cake. What was served was a chocolate layer cake slice on a plate That was clear with pink tinge sauce. There were no cherries in between the layers of the black forest cake. Most of us said we would not return. We all thought the food was way overpriced for what you got. There was also no German band on a Saturday. We were hugely disappointed all together in the experience

Our party of five had been looking forward to this restaurant all week. Excellent reviews, great word of mouth. Our server was, to put it bluntly, in a fog. Her speed was of a snail, Refill a drink, need silverware, we had to flag other servers. Every time she walked by, we were invisible. My dish, Grillhendl, was delicious. The Sauerbraten that three people ordered, was shoe leather. Completely inedible. Even though our bill was properly compensated for the three bad dishes, I doubt I’ll return. Ruining Sauerbraten in a German restaurant is a bad sign.

Our server was very attentive. However the music was insanely loud, the schnitzel was very dry, and the hostess had more chest exposed than covered. The skin on the pork shank was nice and crunchy.

During a Friday noon visit with my husband, the restaurant was nearly empty and appeared to have a single waitress who was unable to give more than minimum amount of coverage to the ten or so tables with customers. After placing our order, we did not see her again until she came by for payment. The pretzel and beer cheese was good but I was not impressed with my chicken sandwich as I do not believe the bun it came on was artisan as in the menu description. In my opinion, grocery store brioche buns are more artisan than what I was served. Additionally, the sandwich was served without condiments. The most frustrating part of the visit was an attempt to buy a 6-pack of hot dunkel (beer). My husband and I separately asked about and specifically requested a hot 6-pack due to the distance we were traveling. But the bar attendant brought a cold 6-pack which was already added to our check. I felt it presumptuous to assume if we wanted a hot 6-pack we would accept a cold 6-pack. The Friday lunch staff is stretched extremely thin and not able to provide the service customers would expect.

We went here for my birthday for the 1st time. We had good service and everyone enjoyed their appetizers and entree. The only thing to complain about was that we were charged $1.00 a person for asking for a plate and fork for our cheesecake that we brought in. The waitress even went to ask the manager if this was the case and it was. I felt bad for the waitress. You could tell she felt awkward telling us so we just paid it without making an issue.
