I've been a Steak 'n Shake customer for 57 years. Their decision to stop in restaurant service (waite staff) was an extreme turnoff for me. It was hit or miss whether or not the self-service order stations worked. Tables needed to be cleaned, and there was debris under tables.
I used the drive up at my last visit. The line moved at a respectful speed. My order was correct and HOT. The one drawback was the drink. There was a huge SOLID chunk of ice that filled the cup and prevented me from inserting the straw plus only about 4oz of soda.

Unfortunately the burgers aren't cooked as crisp as they used to be. No crispy edges and the meat is soggy. Another thing is the mustard relish has onions in it, not just pickles and it's not noted. If there was a real person up front taking orders they could have answered that for me.

It's such a cute interior with old school diner decorations. I actually really like the kiosks; I can be indecisive and struggle reading the boards so it's nice to just be able to scroll and pick. The service was great. Happy holidays to the crew! Thanks for being open for a little while on Christmas Eve.

My food that I ordered was good. My fries were a little over salted, but they were warm. My sandwich was messy but delicious. We did have a lengthy wait in thr drive through. In my mind, it was a little too long due to the fact that very little to nobody was there. It think if the fries had less salt and the wait was a little shorter, I think this place from the drive-through perspective could receive a 5 star. The picture is of the vehicle we were behind for several minutes. Again, a little quicker service or delivery of the food would have been ideal. I can't imagine if it would have been a busy time. It would have been a long wait.
Be of the best deals is the free milkshake after 4pm by filling out the survey (linked on the paper receipt)!

The tables that were dirty when I arrived were still dirty when I left. I had to look around and I found three tables that weren't visibly dirty and I chose one to eat at. the food was good. the portions were large but the cleanliness of the restaurant was problematic.

All Steak 'n Shake ordering is done at a kiosk. There is no table service. It's like those old commercials about a work-araunt as opposed to a rest-aurant. Customers do everything but cook their own food.
I guess it keeps costs down but it also costs jobs and customer service. Doesn't seem like an even trade.
Food was very good though, no complaints at all there, just kind of nostalgic for the Steak 'n Shake of yesteryear.

All kiosk order. Staff is only there to cook the food. Had 4 kiosks, and only one was working. Staff was gruff and not friendly except for one female worker. The food was good but I won't go back.
