De Mar's in Blue Island, IL is a must-visit for anyone in the mood for classic American diner fare. The restaurant has a cozy, old-school feel that instantly transports you to a simpler time. Every time I sit down in a booth it makes me feel like i can talk about nothing, (a Seinfeld reference). The menu is full of classic diner dishes, from hearty breakfast options to juicy burgers and sandwiches to homemade soups and salads. I particularly enjoyed the Tuna melt, which was perfectly put together with just the right amount of cheese and tune on white bread. The French toast was also excellent, with a soft and fluffy texture that melted in my mouth. But if you want the traditional, just order the all American breakfast, 2 sunny side up eggs with hash browns and two slices of bread, along with a cup of coffee. Everything is delicious. The staff at De Mar's are friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. They were quick to offer suggestions on what to order and were always on hand to refill drinks or answer any questions. The restaurant itself is clean and well-maintained, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay for hours. There is plenty of seating, so you won't have to wait long to be seated, and the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food and service. Overall, I highly recommend De Mar's to anyone looking for a traditional American diner experience. So if you are in the area of Blue Island this restaurant It's a gem, that I plan on returning to in the future.

Meat skillet was good but every place I've ever ordered a skillet offers toast or pancakes. Not in this case. For $16.45(cash), they do upcharge for using a card, I expect pancakes.

I HAD THE WORST DINING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE THIS MORNING. I ordered a egg breakfast and instead of toast they offer a $2.00 upcharge for a short stack of pancakes. I said ok I'll have that. Then I will also order a extra side of toast..... now here's where it gets CRAZY. This mean older waitress with gray straw witchy hair tells me NO. I'm not allowed to buy toast!! I said huh?? Wait what?? I said can i buy a extra egg, bacon, hashbrowns, sausage?? She says yes. But I can't buy toast. She said that's right they won't sell me toast. Yes this is a restaurant in the business of selling food but wouldn't sell me toast. Because of the breakfast I selected, I can't be allowed to buy toast! This mean unstable women got so irrationally irate because I expressed how insane and illogical this business practice was and in all my life have never been told such nonsense.... she then screamed at me, are you going to eat this breakfast.? I said yes as soon as you get away from me and stop arguing with me like a spoiled child so I can. Well that was to much for her ego to handle... she snatched my breakfast out from my arms and dumped it out. I was never treated with such horrible disrespect and ignorance in all my life from a waitress. It was truly despicable. I have this interaction on video and will be posting it to YouTube and with local media outlets. So the locals of this area can see where not to go.Ok I'll explain it one last time just because it's that crazy!?TOAST..... they wouldn't sell me an order of toast. Because I purchased a breakfast with pancakes instead of toast in which they charge you for this option, it's written on their menue as a breakfast choice.... and yes i could purchase any other menue side item at this time but TOAST WAS OUT OF THE QUESTION. I don't know how else to explain the insanity in this thinking. Felt like i was in the twilight zone! The man behind me said well how bout i buy some toast and give it to him.... lol. De Mar's is horrible, it's an aging dinosaur of a restaurant that has lost the meaning of service.

Last of a breed. Perfect Chicago area family diner. Big menu, tasty food, excellent soup. Owners and staff are all wonderful. It feels like my childhood in there. Blue Island treasure.

Cream of mushroom soup is good. Home made soups are good. The breaded tenderloin sandwich with mashed potatoes was good. Showed up a bit weird though. The breaded tenderloin was on top of the bread with mashed potatoes and gravy to the side. The entire dish was then covered in brown gravy. There was no way possible to make a sandwich, but I cut it all up together and ate it as a mix. It was still good.

De Mar's is a great friend to the house. We meet people here for meetings. Last Friday we grabbed lunch and brought it back. Was excellent! Great portions, fresh, fairly priced!
