I've never have had a 10 dollar roast beef sandwich with less meat in my entire life, literally one little tiny slice. My son and I fished Crab Orchard lake and decided to stop and get a sandwich at a local Mom & Pop. The atmosphere was very cold and uninviting for the exception of the lady behind the counter. As an SIU alumni I felt very disappointed. If we were Woke we probably would have received better treatment. I don't recommend or will I ever return. Thumbs down 👎 We should have gone to a chain restaurant.

I ordered two New York Style cheesecakes from Cristaudo’s for a get together at my house and they were absolutely delicious. I ordered one with caramel drizzle and one plain (I added the cherries) and they were both a hit. They even let me pick them up on a day when they were closed to the public. I will for sure be ordering cheesecake from them again. Highly recommend.

The small, eclectic dining area featured interesting art and glassware for sale. The staff was extremely accommodating and the food was delicious. The pastries were exceptional, with one of our children declaring them the best blueberry muffins she has ever had. The seating was unusually welcoming to families considering the small size of the dining area. We will absolutely be back.

Sorry, I don't have any photos. I had a turkey and cheddar breakfast sandwich on a house-made croissant and I destroyed it in about 3 minutes flat. It was extremely delicious! Next time, I'll try something else, and try to take a photo.

Love the food and the service- the only downside to the atmosphere is when musicians come and don't use an appropriate volume for the space, but that's only occasional. I love the vegan options and the lavender jasmine tea- great spot for those of us with specific dietary needs, and a beautifully inclusive space!

Good food, good coffee, out to lunch staff. Sometimes they will forget you're there when it's busy.

Beautiful eclectic decor vegan/ vegetarian/ omnivore selections, unique coffees, soda, juice, single beer, cards, and gifts. Staff, laid back. Omelets, lunch, and frozen to go items.
You can order and pay for frozen items a head for particulars.
I picked up soups, and full for 6 lasagna, etc., frozen to go. All were wonderful, not cheap but reasonably priced. You can prepare at the Hilton if you have a kitchenette or take home in a cooler on the amtrack or bring it as a host gift to someone putting you up, or to accommodate your own special dietary needs.
Close to the train station, next door attached is an equally lovely vinyl record shop. Beyond that, a bar with a patio called "the celler."
LOVE that Carbondale has owner occupied businesses. The kind of social capital that keeps communities strong and money LOCAL.
Big shout out to Carbondales tourism director Dena, who navigated me there in all my decrepitude past all the construction and "Off the rails" downtown festival preparations.

So the house made hash is not the hash you think it is. Ask for details before ordering. We were severely disappointed with that dish and wished they had put some details up on the board so people would know what they're ordering. When I order half for breakfast, I don't think it's going to be smothered and pickled cabbage. And it went on from there, believe me. Everybody there is really nice. We ordered a lot of baked goods to take with us because they all looked good. We were disappointed in that regard also, unfortunately. Of all the things we bought, only the brownie was legit. My son had the eggs benedict, and he said that was good. I ordered a bowl of their chili to go because I love chili. Well, it wasn't chili per se. It was a very chunky vegetable soup, and I'm talking huge chunks, with some chili spices in there. Super disappointing. They weren't busy, and it took a really long time to get our food as well. Unfortunately, it won't be a repeat for us.

This is an absolute must visit anytime we come to Southern Illinois! We hadn't been to the area in several years and on our last visit we made sure to come by to load up on boo boo bars. Thankfully they're just as amazing as we all remembered!!

Been to Christados before many times. Party of 6. Part of our table got served right away. 35 minuted later 4 of us are still waiting. Asked for it to go since we are all headed in different directions and we needed to hit the road. Music was very loud and we had been camping so did not check social media for the update. Cook made sarcastic remarks when delivering our food. Guess 15% is not enough
