There’s nothing like the care of an abuela! I stopped in on a whim. Mexican grocery stores are awesome places to find a little bit of Mexico in your neighborhood!
This one has a great restaurant at the back of the store! I ordered a hurache - masa made into a flat fried “platter” topped with beans, meat of choice(mine’s chorizo!), ensalada, and this one had some sauce.
The nice lady taking my order felt like a grandma taking care of me. After waiting a few minutes she came out to let me know these take a little longer to fry up the masa.
In addition to the friendly service the food was tasty and a great price! I need to try to get out to lunch more so I can head here.
Terrific genuine home style Mexican food, reasonably priced and delicious.
I will be eating here regularly in the future.
Authentic and I will be back!
Best Mexican food in southern Illinois. This is my go to for Mexican food.
Very good food and great service
Best little hidden gem in Carbondale. Erma is the best!
A true hidden gem, great place to have tamales, tacos and menudo.
The food is consistently high quality, delicious and authentic. The women running the kitchen are so kind and it always feels like I'm walking into my grandma's kitchen. This is inexplicable as I have no latino heritage but I assume it's the vibes, the passion about creating quality food for people to enjoy and the therefore the love they put into the food. It's familiar to me and I'm always excited to support this small business. My go-to is the chorizo torta or the carne asada tacos.
Love the fresh ingredients & warm hospitality.

Wonderful lil gem to have lunch
Great food and amazing people
Excellent food with very good flavor.
This is an outstanding place for great Mexican food.
Love. Came into town for the eclipse, and stopped here. Very good burritos and tamales, very reasonably priced. They have lots of different things in the shop, but IDK what they were because I was too distracted by the amazing hot food. THANK YOU! GOOD PEOPLE.
