My brother and I were driving back to Atlanta from Chicago and spending the night with some former classmates of mine in Carbondale. We had time to kill, so I suggested stopping at Pag’s because I used to grab late night slices when I was in school back the early 90’s. We caught them the night of the re-opening.

You could tell the staff was training and they were using paper tickets so it took awhile.

HOWEVER, the Coke was crispy and pizza was magnificent and SO worth the wait. I had a small special, plus green olives on a thin and crispy crust. John had the thin and crispy vegetarian plus chicken. He said it was one of the best pizzas he’s ever had in his life.

The last time I had Pag’s, more than likely I was a college student hammered on cheap draft beer. It was great then, but eating it sober was a whole new level of delicious. I sent a picture to a buddy who’d also attended SIU. He was jealous of my good fortune.

Our server was super sweet and took great care of us.

Glad you’re back and we caught you at the start of a new chapter. Keep up the good work!

Also…can I order a frozen one shipped to Atlanta for Thanksgiving?

Used to be the best pizza place in Carbondale. Today, the pizza was ok, but they did not have any pasta or sandwiches, which the kids wanted. Then gave me a bag to take my leftover pizza home in. Definitely gone down hill.

Arrived at 5, the restaurant was busy but not packed. Ordered 1 small gluten free and 1 medium Joe’s special, and 3 dinner salads. Salads arrived fairly quickly but after an hour and a half still no pizza. The waitress hadn’t come back so when she finally walked by I asked if she could check on it. I could see her talk to the guys making the pizzas and then they seemed to be looking for our ticket. When she came back she said the gluten free crust had to “thaw” so it would be another 20 minutes. I said I wished she would have said something sooner so I could have decided to cancel or order something else. She did apologize but after about 30 more minutes the pizzas finally came but half the gluten free one was overdone and burnt. I would hope that in a case like this the manager would come out and apologize or ask if there was something they could do to make it right. By this time the restaurant had emptied out. After we paid I asked to speak to the manager and let him know that while I’ve praised them on social media in the past tonight was not good. He became defensive saying sorry but they were busy because of the game and blew me off.

We have been going to pags for about 35 years. Always loved their pizza. But they have new owners and they have switched the salad dressing to a cheaper item. They did have the best thousand island and French salad dressing. But dressing is not very good now. The pizza was still good although it was a little cold when they brought it to our table.

Pags pizza is as good as it was 35 years ago!
New owner is doing a great job keeping the tradition alive!

Over priced, under preformed. Taps of beer stale. Don't pay for extras on your pizza,

I was debating on how many stars to give. First the waitress was new, and horrible. Second we ordered a large Joes special, pan crust. It was $27 and some change. Then you charge $6 for crust. That makes the pizza $33. It was good but not $33 good, then charge $5.50 for the crust on a medium pizza. I don't think so. Then we leave and walk past the counter where 6 employees were standing and no one says thanks, have a good night etc. As we are exiting 1 waitress on the floor bless her heart.took the time to thank us and say have a good night.
Very disappointing for our second visit, not sure if there will be a third visit
