My family and I were in my hometown for three days last month and each morning, we ate at Old 50 Café. Although all the usual menu items were ordered for breakfast, it was the potatoes that my daughter says were five stars. She’s from Ann Arbor and has eaten at many different restaurants there. She maintain that nowhere has she tasted fried potatoes like those made at Old 50 Café. She couldn’t wait to get there each morning, just to get those potatoes.
We were able to sit by the big window overlooking Franklin, watching the traffic and seeing people walking by. It was all very nice and homey

We ate lunch at old 50 Cafe on a Saturday. They had very good business with waitresses hustling and doing a good job of keeping up. Food was good. I had chicken fried steak and my wife had liver and onions. She said the liver was a little tough but otherwise good. Would eat here again when in the area.

unfortunately my family and i were unable to try the food, we walked in to a nice family atmosphere looked a bit busy but we didn’t mind. was our first time attempting eating anywhere in carlyle and we’ve been visiting as a family for years, upon entrance there were no signs to indicate if we will be sat or to seat ourselves, so we waited behind our mother because it’s an unfamiliar area, my father is african american and my siblings and i are mixed race so our mother being caucasian helps us to feel safer in certain places and situations ones that don’t seem too friendly. a very nice server saw my mom and told us to “come on in and find a table” to which we found one that could fit all 5 of us. as i mentioned the restaurant was busy so we didn’t exactly expect fast service, that was fine we just wanted to browse the menus and talk amongst ourselves sipping waters it’s a hot day today 88 fahrenheit but it feels like 103, servers kept walking past doing their jobs not an issue. but no one stopped to give us menus or offer us waters. we sat there for about 5 minutes without being greeted at our table, no menus dropped off, no waters or coffee offered, and we just kept getting stared at by patrons. my younger sister was very uncomfortable and so was my father so i started looking for a different cafe immediately. i understand we didn’t wait extremely long and there was no horrible service given. but there was also no hospitality and as a server id never want my guests to feel neglected, not cared for, or completely ignored.

Good people all around. Great food. Great senses - humor, justice, timing, sensitivity. You're missing a wonderful example of an Illinois café if you don't stop by!

This is our second time at the Old 50's Cafe, and both times the food has been great, service has been awesome, and the atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. This time we got a French Dip, and a Corned Beef Hash skillet. Both were delicious! We also had a bowl of Homemade chicken and dumpling soup...so good! The husband loves it because he can get a great breakfast all day! I would highly suggest stopping here if you're hungry, and need something quick, delicious and hearty!

Nice size portions. I had the senior lunch, grilled ham, potatoes, green beans and a salad. I took part of it home for dinner. Great home cooked meals.

Just passing through.
Excellent food!
Breakfast served all day!
The omelette was amazing and definitely a home cooked meal!
The home fries are cooked just right!
The Burger was the best! Huge and cooked to perfection!
The seasoned fries were oh so good!
Our server (the pink haired girl) was fast and accommodating although not the most personable.
Needs work on customer service skills. 😊 At least ask how our meal was and if we want anything else before leaving the check. 👌
The interior has an old historic feel and charm.
Overall this was a great stop!
Will definitely stop back by when through this way in the future!

We were in town visiting for a wedding. We wanted to get breakfast before heading back to Nashville, TN this morning and we were so pleased with this place! The food was delicious, you got great portion sizes and it was served hot! If we didn't live 5.5 hours away we would definitely eat here more often!
