It was my first time trying indian food. Why didn't I go sooner???? These people were very nice and the service was outstanding. The butter chicken was some next level dining. Very friendly staff and overall excellent experience. I will be back soon. Definitely worth a visit. Cost was very reasonable and you will not leave Hungry 🙂

BAD DINING EXPERIENCE ALERT: Horrible experience! Please avoid visiting this restaurant at all costs if you're in Champaign. The food is overpriced for the portion sizes and is not at all palatable. We went there for my birthday dinner and ordered schezwan chicken, butter chicken, naan & mango lassi. Apart from the lassi, we couldn't really touch any of the food as they were taste less, spice less and an utter disaster! The naan was too chewy & simply felt like we're having a frozen one that was just heated up & served. The butter chicken felt nothing close to an authentic butter chicken as the gravy was too sour and full of uncooked tomatoes with no balance of flavors. The schezwan chicken starter portion was so tiny that we could literally count the pieces. Overall it was a nightmare of an experience & disappointment!!!

Response to owner:

Yes I'm pretty sure, it is Kohinoor restaurant in Champaign. Also I don't know about whether you have schezwan chicken as starter or not. But that's what your waiter recommended us. Attached are the pictures for your reference so you can verify against the background and your food. And I'm stating my experience at your pathetic restaurant which you can't alter just by being defensive. Plus, the horrible food served to us yesterday was really bad on our stomach.

IMPROVE your service & acknowledge your mistakes

We ordered samosa chat, chicken biryani, Kohinoor chicken aloo and paneer saag. They came with naan or rice and we got one of each. They were all very good and the chicken aloo was the group favorite

OVERALL RATING 8/10
The atmosphere of the restaurant is inviting. It has a good vibe; soft music and dimmed lighting. There is ample seating to accommodate many guests. The restaurant is very clean; the floors, tables, plates and silverware were all clean. Bathrooms were very clean and well-stocked with the necessary items. The staff member who served us was Anil. He was extremely helpful and friendly. During our meal, he was always there when we needed him. Now to our meal: we had the Samosa Chat as our appetizer. It was wonderfully made and full of flavor. For our entrees, we had the Butter Chicken Ginger Masala and the Lamb Garlic Masala. For our breads, we had the Roti and Paratha. For our drinks, we had the Masala Chai. The food was absolutely delicious. There are 4 other Indian restaurants in the Champaign/Urbana area, and I have ate at all of them. I can honestly say that KohiNoor is by far the best and most authentic Indian cuisine in this area. For your review, I have attached photos of our meal. Our total bill for two came out to $60.18.

Kohinoor has been consistently delicious since the first time I tried it in 2018.

It was the Sunday night staple for my friend and I for a couple of years before he moved away. We eventually made our way through all the chicken dishes and agreed that the Kohinoor chicken aloo is the best (he got in spicy, I got it mild) and the chicken korma and chicken jalfrize are our seconds.

The upcharge for the garlic naan is absolutely worth it and I was surprised to see that the garlic naan actually increased in size over the years. Everything I’ve ever had there has been absolutely amazing and priced very fairly. The service is also great!

This place has ruined all other Indian food for me. It’s set a bar for taste that no other place I’ve been to has been able to reach! The naan is absolutely perfect every time.

i want to speak to the owner, and i want my $ back for tonight's order. came here during my lunch break at work. the guy on the phone told me it would be 20 min. got to koinoor 20 minutes later, food isn't ready. had to wait an extra 10 min. the guy coming out of the kitchen hands me the wrong order. i put it back on the table, and took the correct order. good thing i checked...little bit later, Kohinoor starts calling my phone. guy keeps asking where i am, and if i ordered. i explained the situation, and that i am back at work now. he kept asking if i ordered Kohinoor over and over again. i told him I'm at work and to stop calling me, then hung up the phone.... he called AGAIN. at this point i was quite angry. i am a paying customer. under no circumstances is it ok to call me AT MY JOB and interrupt my driving. your cashier is incredibly very rude, unprofessional, and just downright terrible at his job. i expect better than this from a sit down restaurant. i wouldn't have had to deal with this absurdly poor service a pizza place, or even a fast food restaurant.
