Overpriced and steak on tacos is cut into micro-bits. In other words, you barely get any steak taco meat.

El Allende is a really awful place. The moment you walk in, the vibe is tense because the place looks so ugly and run-down. The cashier is rude and completely unprofessional, and honestly, the staff overall is just terrible. I had a completely negative experience. Don’t bother going.

Tacos are great. Full, flavorful and a true value. If you’re out in Chicago and are craving tacos - this is the place. Bring your napkins, bring your alcohol laden stomachs. This is it.

I want to be fair with this review because after reading the reviews below, it sounds like some of these people haven’t left the neighborhood hood and don’t actually have a great pallet for taste.
Especially the person who claims to have been coming here for 30 years.
The staff is very friendly, the lady up front at the register is very sweet and I truly appreciate the hospitality. Now let’s get to my order.
3 steak tacos and an order of chips and salsa.
My chips were a little stale and unsalted which unfortunately is a little upsetting but the homemade salsa was great.
The tacos However, were surprisingly a new experience for me. They were Presented very nicely and were very filling. As far as taste goes, I felt the steak did not have much seasoned flavor. It was kind of basic and what you would imagine a basic steak taco to taste like. But they were loaded up and did fill me up for lunch today.
I did enjoy myself despite sitting at a table that was angled and leaning to the floor and the unsalted and stale chips. Maybe today was an off day for them today.
Be sure the follow Jaliet Caprana on all music streaming platforms.

My absolute favorite taco spot in Chicago. Been coming here for 20 years!
The staff is excellent, tried and true and Family owned. Carne Asada tacos are well done, veggies are fresh and fries are golden crispy. Best salsa picante roja in the city, possibly the world. Perfect for Depaul students like myself and open late for the night owls. Allendes will always hold a special place in my heart.
Chicken tacos are horrible. Lacks flavor, very dry, and the cook just dumped old pulled chicken out of a bucket onto the flat top. They only offer one hot sauce for some reason. Lots of better options in the area, wouldn’t waste your money.

I’ve been coming to this place for 30 years, since I was a teenager, and in a world of ever-changing food trends, it’s the standard by which I judge every taco. They haven’t reinvented the wheel. They don’t need to. They’ve been perfecting it since day one.
The carne asada? Flavor-packed, juicy. Every bite is a reminder that simple done right is what you really want. And the al pastor? Man, it’s the gold standard — the flavor’s there, every single damn time.
But it’s the homemade salsa and hot sauce that really sets this place apart. If you’re not dousing your taco in both, you’re doing it wrong. These aren’t just condiments — they’re game-changers. A few sprinkles, and suddenly that taco hits a whole new level. It’s pure umami. It’s the kind of flavor that makes you stop and say, “Yeah, this is why I keep coming back.”
For 30 years, nothing’s changed — and nothing should.

Is very mediocre mexican food. It lacked flavor it was dry and blah. It was plentiful but really expensive. Thirty dollars for a burrito rice beans and a few chips
