I recommend Macha Latte, which tastes good. The service is welcoming. One pleasant experience.

My first experience at Almendro was good. However, my second experience was disgusting.
I witnessed the cashier (Jasmine) making my food without gloves. Also, the tray my food was served on was dirty & there was hair on it.
Won’t be returning, a waste of $15. I couldn’t even eat my food.
The pastries are often stale as well.

I came here at 9am on a Saturday, there were 3 people in the whole place. They have samples sitting out, and a coffee menu. My son got a churro. It was a little stale. My partner got a game and cheese empanada, and liked it. I ordered a hot coffee and a spinach egg sandwich on an English muffin. After 15 minutes and multiple folks coming in and out the sandwich had not come so I asked about it. The two staff looked at each other and said okay 1 minute. 10 minutes later and the sandwich was ready, on a croissant. It was okay. Definitely not worth 25 minutes. It comes with an orange slice and a slice of cantaloupe.
Unfortunately, no one’s fault, but the my coffee cup was leaking everywhere and they didn’t have a key to the bathroom.

Hidden Gem in Hyde Park – A Must-Visit!
Almendro Café in the Hyde Park Arts Building is an absolute gem! From the moment you walk in, the warm and inviting atmosphere makes you feel at home. Their menu has a delightful Mexican flare, and the empanadas are incredible—flaky, flavorful, and perfectly satisfying. I also tried their hibiscus tea, which was so refreshing and full of natural flavor.
The staff is friendly and welcoming, and you can tell they put care into everything they serve. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite, settling in with a coffee, or just enjoying the cozy vibe, this spot is a perfect neighborhood go-to. I’ll definitely be back—highly recommend!

The chicken chilaquiles were fantastic! Horchata was delicious and authentic too. It’s connected to an art center with cool art.

We moved to the area recently and have been many times. The food and service is always super friendly, and it is such a nice space! So great to have a neighborhood spot so close by.

I walked in for the first time and was looking at the items and menus. No one greeted me. I even stepped in front of the register and not one word from the cashier. I walked away to look at the items again since she seemed busy. Well a white person walked in and the cashier had so much energy and welcomed the person with a hello. Such disgusting behavior!

Cute space. Staff seemed nice enough. However, I asked for a hot oat milk latte and received a lukewarm beverage. I thought to myself “I didn’t even hear the espresso machine.” So, it appeared that they gave me an old drink. I asked for it to be re-made and I’m pretty sure it was made with almond milk instead of oat. The smoothie was sub par, not very smooth. And the veggie sandwich was bland.
