Amatitlan in Chicago brings the vibrant flavors of Guatemalan cuisine to life with standout dishes like the hearty caldo de res that’s rich and comforting on a chilly day, or the fresh pupusas stuffed with cheese and loroco that burst with authentic taste, all served in a cozy, family-run spot where the hospitality makes you feel like a regular from the first visit. The menu offers a great variety at reasonable prices, from tangy ceviche to sweet plantains, and the portions are generous enough to satisfy without overwhelming, though the space can get a bit cramped during peak hours and some items like the tamales could use a touch more spice for that extra kick—overall, it’s a welcoming four-star gem for anyone craving Central American comfort food with genuine charm.

As a native-born Guatemalan, I feel right home here. The chiles rellenos remind me of my Tia's version that I miss so much. This is well worth the visit, especially if you are planning to travel to Guatemala and want a taste of the food you'll be welcomed with.

The truth is, everything is very rich. The only bad thing is that the account is only one. I mean, you can't go with friends because you can't pay separately.

The delicious food 10 out of 10. The waiter was excellent and very friendly. I ordered a very delicious shrimp ceviche. My husband ordered Guatemalan chirrasquito and it was great. The meat, the rice, everything had a very rich flavor, the corn tamales were very delicious. The guacamole with chips was good, what else can I say, everything was excellent 👌 we will definitely return.

First time eating here. Definitely coming back for the pupusas! We order chicharrón and queso, churrasquito Chapín, caldo de res, tamale guatemalteco. Everything was good but the soup was ok. But the rest was absolutely delicioso!!!

This is the only 100% Guatemalan restaurant that reminds me of my mom's seasoning, everything was excellent.

For the pupusas, they are far away, go buy today and they don't bring anything, the Latin patio ones are better ☺️
