Too much girly stuff. My girls loved it.

My friend’s daughter has a developmental disability that affects her hearing. She wanted her doll to have a hearing aid just like her. So my friend bought her daughter the Joss doll which is supposed to come with two hearing aids in the box. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case. My friend did some research and learned that the only way to get the hearing aid installed is to bring the doll all the way to Chicago. Since I visit home often and live here in Chicago I offered to bring the doll to the store for her. The staff in the lobby was kind and directed me to the salon area where hearing aids are installed. Once I got to the salon, the staff was quite rude and short with me. I asked if it was possible to get Joss’s original hearing aid and they said no. No biggy. The pink hearing aid was surprisingly affordable. I had to wait a little while until they could find a staff member that knew how to install hearing aids. After the staff member took the doll, it didn’t take long. Overall it was an okay experience. The store is very clean and the salon services are surprisingly fair but the staff customer service skills are hit or miss and it’s disappointing that they can’t provide the original hearing aid or have all salon staff trained on all services.

The minute I stepped in the door my inner child got excited. I have never seen such a wonderful selection of dolls and accessories. What a fun store for young girls, I could see spending quite a few hours exploring. If you need anything American girl like or get a special toy for a little girl in your life this is the place to be. 2 floors of inventory was impressive and their was a good amount of associates available to help. We walked by a salon for both girls and their dolls, that would be a special birthday treat for sure. I would recommend checking this place out.

Everyone there plays their part very well and truly makes it a magical experience for the kids.

Beautiful store. Helpful employees. Fantastic selection.

Brought my daughter to celebrate her birthday. We reserved a birthday meal at the café so she got a birthday cake and goodie bag which was super cute and fun. Every employee we came across was SO FRIENDLY AND NICE. I accidentally booked doll ear piercing for the wrong day but we were still able to get her doll's ears pierced. I doubt any of the other salon services would've been available without a long wait or reservation though. I highly recommend planning ahead and making reservations for the cafe and the salon.

Beautiful store!! We were worried it would be too busy on a Saturday, but it wasn't bad at all. Do make reservations for anything you want to do (cafe, salon, doll doctor) or else you may not get to do it. We came here for my gran baby's 5th birthday and were not disappointed!!

I love the look on my daughters face every time we go in. The staff is always friendly and helpful. It's definitely a place I recommend you take your daughters Even if you don't make a purchase it's fun to walk around and see all the original dolls and learn about them

I am not into dolls but my kid was happy about the small dresses or accessories for the doll. I got a doll just for Chicago iconic AG. Maybe one time visit doent hurt but won't go next time to spend money on the ideal doll- in my opinion doesn't worth for money just one time for the kid.

Raquel was so patient and helpful with picking out dolls for my granddaughters. We then ate in the cafe and everything was delicious. Definitely an enjoyable experience.

10/10 experience. Only wish they had more displays for different dolls. They kept repeating a few with the exact same setup.
As others have mentioned, it definitely brings back nostalgia and fond memories.

I haven’t been to an AG store since the Mall Of America had one.

When I entered this location, a wave of nostalgia hit me. It’s like I was reliving the good old days. I’m way too old for the store now, but I still had so much fun walking around. I love seeing the dolls on display. There isn’t really much here for me since I’m older you know.

I will come here again!!!

This is a really cool store that any little girl would enjoy. I was almost going to leave a 3-star review because of the bad customer service, but the security guard with the glasses saved it. I think his name was Denis or Daniel — sorry if I got it wrong — but he was a huge help guiding us to where we needed to go.

They have lots of dolls and accessories to buy, and the inside is very clean and beautiful. There's an escalator that takes you upstairs to a section that connects to what looks like a small mall. Yes, the prices are high, but that's what I expected. There are a few spots where kids can play with the dolls, which is really nice, and my daughter loved being able to play with almost everything.

We traveled from the Detroit area to visit the American Girl Place Chicago for our 5-year-old’s first doll, and it was something we had been really looking forward to. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t meet expectations.
Booking services ahead of time was difficult, and there was no waitlist or flexibility when we asked multiple times—even in person at opening. We ended up spending over $600 on dolls, outfits, and accessories, but the spa experience was disappointing—the hairstyle started falling out within 15 minutes (they did fix it, which we appreciated).
What stood out most was the lack of warmth and accommodation. When we made a simple request to use a spray bottle so our daughter could match her doll, we were told no. It felt unnecessarily rigid, especially given the situation.
Overall, the experience felt more transactional than special, which was disappointing for what was meant to be a memorable milestone for our daughter.
