I really enjoyed the ambiance - I felt like it took me back to my travels in India - someone said that the decor could use an upgrade in the reviews - please don't change anything! Authentic Indian Excellence - No More Devon Avenue Trek Required! Apna Indian Grill & Bar on Irving Park Road is a fantastic addition to the neighborhood, bringing authentic Indian cuisine with an impressively broad selection right to our doorstep.
We no longer have to make the trek all the way to the Devon neighborhood for amazing Indian food - and that alone is worth celebrating! But Apna Indian Grill & Bar doesn't just fill a gap - they truly raise the bar.
The appetizers are fresh and come in generous portions. We especially loved their fresh-baked bread, particularly the garlic naan, which is absolutely stellar.
The Lamb Vindaloo was our standout dish - incredibly flavorful with perfectly cooked lamb in a rich, layered sauce that showcases real depth. You can taste the quality ingredients and attention to detail in every bite. The Paneer Makhani was also excellent as a vegetarian option, bursting with flavor and featuring an amazing sauce that's perfect for dipping that fresh naan.
Another highlight: the Chicken Biryani was perfection! How many times have I ordered biryani only to receive dry, clumped rice? Not here! The rice was perfectly cooked and beautifully coated in seasonings and sauce, while the chicken was tender and fresh throughout. Next time we absolutely need to try the lamb biryani - it's probably just as amazing. We'll report back because we're definitely going back!

Ordered the aloo gobi and baingan bharta tonight for pickup and the food was absolutely fantastic. I ordered spicy and it was perfect, not overwhelming. I will definitely be going back to try other items on the menu. I wonder if they'd whip up an aloo baingan if I asked nice?
We kicked things off with 4 garlic naans, fresh out of the tandoor — soft, buttery, and packed with that perfect garlicky punch. They paired beautifully with the two curries we ordered: 🍛 Paneer Tikka Masala – creamy, rich, and full of flavor. The paneer was perfectly grilled and soaked up the masala like a dream. 🍲 Kadai Paneer – bold, spicy, and aromatic with bell peppers and onions adding that extra zing. A classic done right! Everything was smooth, well-balanced, and satisfying. The portions were generous, and the spices were just right — not too overpowering, but enough to keep your taste buds dancing. ☕ To wrap up the meal, we had a nice masala tea — warm, comforting, and the perfect end to a flavorful journey. 💬 Final thoughts? Lamb Vindaloo tasted great. The dal was good. The naan was good. The portions are absurd. The dal was 5.95....i got about 6 oz in an 8 oz container. The Lamb Vindaloo came in 16 oz container, which is pretty standard, but it wasn't full, so that's a problem. I got about a cup of cooked rice with my order, so that was also disappointing. I'd imagine the experience eating at the location is a different one. For delivery, you're rolling the dice.

My initial order was a doordash months ago from the original location. The new location is a block from my house. I only order takeout, which I've done three times now. The food is excellent. They have Bagary Baingan! The Biryani is great. The food is just excellent. This is probably in the top three for Indian/Pakistani places I've had. It's like Sheesh Mahal Dhaba from back in the day, before that place declined a bit. Apna is just fantastic.
