Unfortunately, we were so disappointed. There isn’t much in the way of atmosphere inside. The patio looked nicer. The service was okay except they cleared the table, unexpectedly taking away a sauce we wanted. The food was okay. There are much better Greek food options in Chicago.

This Avli is very good (I feel that the food is better than the one in River North).

What happened to the avli we’ve known and loved!? I know… new ownership. The service was so rushed from the moment we sat down. We normally get fries that are loaded with feta and seasoning with an aoli sauce, and now we have to pay for every side sauce which totaled us nearly $20 (including the tzatziki which usually came with the kebobs). After the poor service and clearly lower standard food, we then got kicked out of our table with no prior notice or knowledge of a table time limit (we were there for 90 minutes). Such a shame, it used to be our favorite spot to go.

I’ve been going to Avli for years and was obsessed with their chicken kebab. But after my latest visit with friends, I’m officially over it.
The minute we sat down, the servers were clearly in a hurry to get us in and out. We ordered our usual Greek fries, and… what happened?! They used to be thick, golden fries with feta. Now they’re skinny, greasy, and topped with Parmesan. Not Greek, not good.
The chicken dishes were just as disappointing—greasier, less flavorful, and honestly, kind of “meh.” And apparently now, every dipping sauce, even ketchup, is $3.
To top it all off, the hostess asked us to leave once we had our to-go boxes because they “needed the table for the next guests.” Turns out they have new owners, which explains a lot.
So yeah… time to find a new Greek favorite. RIP Avli—you were great while you lasted.

I’ve always really liked Avli and have gone a handful of times, but lately it’s been underwhelming.
The menu has really been reduced it seems over the years, but the price is getting ridiculous. Honestly I love the vibe but the prices just don’t make sense for the food quality/portion. Also adding a 3% surcharge is just so annoying these days. I used to go often but probably will not in the future. Is basically bistro food at fine dining prices. There are many better value greek places.

I stood at the hostess stand for 5 minutes without a greeting or so much as eye contact from any of the 5 staff that were standing around chatting. Ended up walking out and will not be back. Don’t need your overpriced food anyway.

Lovely outside patio!!! The solomos is a little dry but very well seasoned on a delicious celery puree… Hummus is nice, but it’s very hard to screw up.
