The food was fine. The portions were very small but it did taste good. There was only one person working there and I ended up waiting several minutes just to be seated because he was elsewhere. He forgot my drink too. Overall disappointed.

When we couldn’t decide between beef or chicken sambusa for our appetizers, the chef kindly offered to give us one of each, which we happily accepted. The sambusas arrived at the table freshly made but not at all oily. We both prefer the chicken as its filling was lighter and less chewy than the beef. Meat and veggie combo was amazing: visually stunning and packed with flavors. The meat dishes were good (with the exception of lamb being slightly too gamey) but the veggie dishes were truly excellent. Injera was so spongy delightfully tangy, making it the perfect tool to soak up all the flavorful stews.

The vegetarian platter is fresh, satisfying and delicious, sambusas are also very tasty and fried nicely, we get takeout or dine in at least once a month

We ordered food for the kid; waited for an hour just to tell us no food is coming.

My dish was like re-hydrated beef jerky. When the server finally came back to check on us after 20 minutes, I let her know that my food was inedible. Her response was to do nothing and hide until we had to find her to get the check. No, I did not eat my food, and yes, they still charged full price and didn't even apologize. The last thing is no air conditioning. Way too hot in that place. This could be why we were the only people in there.

Great experience. Food was terrific.
Several diners were Ethiopian, which is always a good thing when searching for authenticity. Ask for the Teff only injera if you're GF or looking for the true Ethiopian way it's made.

If you're looking for an authentic Ethiopian dining experience in Chicago, look no further than Axum Restaurant. From the moment we walked in, we were enveloped by the warm, inviting atmosphere and the tantalizing aroma of traditional Ethiopian spices.

We started our meal with the sambussa, a perfect appetizer that was crispy on the outside and filled with flavorful goodness. The Tibs, were absolutely delicious- tender, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. Each bite was a burst of authentic Ethiopian flavors.

The coffee at Axum is also something to rave about. It’s rich, aromatic, and adds a perfect finish to the meal, offering a true taste of Ethiopian coffee culture.

What made our visit truly exceptional was the service. The staff was attentive and friendly. Chef Yared, in particular, stood out with his warm personality and genuine dedication to his customers. He goes above and beyond to ensure that everyone has a memorable dining experience.

The prices at Axum are very reasonable, especially considering the quality and authenticity of the food. It's a great value for an extraordinary dining experience.

We recently had the pleasure of dining at Axum Restaurant in Chicago, and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish.

For appetizers, We tried the Chicken Sambusa, which was perfectly crispy and flavorful. For the main course, We went for the Chef’s Combo, a delightful assortment of traditional Ethiopian dishes that showcased the rich and diverse flavors of the cuisine. To complement our meal, we enjoyed a bottle of Habesha beer, a famous Ethiopian brew that added an authentic touch to the experience.

The service at Axum was exceptional. Host Yared was incredibly welcoming and hospitable, making us feel right at home. Our server was attentive and friendly, ensuring that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable.

The ambiance of the restaurant is equally impressive, with nice instrumental Ethiopian music and a cozy interior vibe that sets the perfect mood for a meal. The location is convenient with ample street parking space, making it easy to get to and from the restaurant.

I highly recommend Axum Restaurant to anyone looking to try Ethiopian food in Chicago. It's a culinary gem that should not be missed!

I came to the restaurant as a family of six . We came at a very busy time and they had a few people working but the service was great and fast. The owner was kind enough to give us an addition of what we liked from the meal. I highly recommend this restaurant
