Mocha was just okay, needs more coffee and slightly more chocolate flavor but it was very smooth. Ive been to 70% of the small shops in chicago and only get mocha's. Service was very nice and their mugs for sale looked amazing! Donuts were fantastic and they have parfaits which is rare.

Consistently delicious espresso, decaf and caffeinated. Everyone is kind and super efficient even when there's a line. My favorite spot for a quick coffee. Easy to pop into while heading onto the freeway, always parking out front or in back.

I only stopped in to grab a gift card for my SIL as a sticking stuffer , he goes the Montrose location to do homework. I came into the Avondale location & it looks cozy, small but not congested, friendly cashiers , very clean bathroom, pastries look awesome & coffee smelt amazing.

The coolest staff in the world work here. Their plain croissants are top tier.
The coffee shop, just off to the side of the Metra Railway station (hence backlot?) is a very chic and somewhat hippie-vibed coffee shop that would be very at home on a college campus.
The shop is adorned with modern art and creative wall paintings. The clientele meshes nicely with the vibe (except me, perhaps😁). Young, urban, stylish customers fill out the experience.
The staff is friendly and the restrooms are clean and cutely decorated in the same style as the rest of the shop.
Pro Tip
The music, staff and customers can be pretty loud.
Enjoying the vibe is great.
Doing work here may not be so much so.

The hot latte and service were excellent. The apple fritter was good, but a bit doughy. At least it actually had some pieces of apple in it. Would return.

Really disappointed as this used to be my fave coffee shop. I’ll admit I was a bit rushed and didn’t have much time and wanted to place my order asap and was the next customer in line but I feel like from the moment we walked in, the baristas didn’t bother greeting us which at first it was obvious that they were busy so this was understandable but one of them that was taking the orders was having a personal convo which fine that’s normal but after a few minutes of us grabbing stuff from the fridge and standing in line waiting to order another item , the one barista continued carrying on his personal conversation with a customer without ever once acknowledging our presence. Kept asking follow up questions to a point where I thought the slight was intentional.
We returned the items back to the fridge and left pretty swiftly as clearly their convo was much too important to acknowledge us and clearly our business is not needed. They have enough foot traffic I totally understand that and want to build relationships with their special customers but guess what, we were customers too and a little respect goes a long way.
this used to be my fave spot and today’s treatment was borderline disrespectful and just unfortunate.

I wanted to try something new on my way to the Skokie Festival of Cultures and glad I stopped at Backlot Coffee! It’s a small space that packs a lot of character! They had art for sale on the walls and plenty of space to sit to enjoy your coffee or work on your laptop. I got a hot coffee with caramel and it was handed to me immediately and it was just what I wanted! The banana bread has chocolate chips and really hit the spot! Fair prices and kind staff. They have parking too!
