This is a very pricey place for food that is not excellent but it's good enough and it's a great place for fun and drinks. I gave them five stars because the tres Lecha cake dessert is really amazing. The cake is very spongy, and had a nice big fat, mint leaf, the blueberries were good, the condensed milk along with the caramel on the side was really good and the cake was very moist, and there was a lot of milk and milk throughout the cake, which is a perfect combination. They have actual candles The margarita tasted really good and it has spicy flakes with salt around the glass. The $16 taco salad was a good vegetarian option for me, which also had cheese, which is fine with me, but it was way too spicy for someone who does not like anything spicy, and I did not see anything described in the menu that it was spicy. So I was suffering And my sinuses were cleared. I also was looking forward to a lot of salad and fresh tomato pieces and cilantro and onions, and I didn't like the vinegar based onions in there because it was too vinegary. I would've preferred sauce on the side I could put as much as I want instead of everything being in that pre-mixed taco salad sauce, if I come back for the next time to order it again. The $21 Carnitas fried rice was really good and had fresh rice and fried egg with onions and pork. But I felt the serving size for the high price was very small because I kind of expected twice the amount of rice because rice doesn't cost that much. If you're hungry, you might want to get something else. It gets pretty crowded right after work so it's pretty loud in here, but at least the music is not blurring like some places might be. Overall, the ambience is great, the drinks are good. The food is OK. They offer tres leche cake, which is my favorite for $13. It's one of the best desserts offered at a restaurant and Barrio did it so well. Oh, and they also have outdoor seating. The decor and all the special rooms are very pretty and cozy to enjoy w friends and family. And they have weekly rotating special deals like five dollar tacos on Tuesdays and we can brunch drinks that are bottomless.

Came for a few drinks and appetizers and sat at the bar. The bartender seemed very busy but apologized for the delay. The guac was excellent and the drinks were good. One of the managers came by to check on us and get feedback.

Staff is super attentive and friendlyWe were in downtown walking around when we stopped at the Barrio to get a biteWhen walking in we were quickly greeted by a charming host. The patio was busy for Sunday dinner but we didn’t mind the wait.. totally worth it. Before being sat the host was sure to ask me of my allergies so I was impressed with the thoroughness since I’ve been to places where even my server will forget... As soon as I was sat my allergies were reconfirmed by the serverThey gave us a dog menu for my dog too. Too cute! Not many places think about thatDinner was great but the trese letches cake was the winning dish I can’t wait to come back for my birthday!Dietary restrictions: If you have a gluten allergy like me you’re safety dish is the tacos since they have corn tortillas

Fun place for a girls night. Excellent margaritas and tacos. Had to ask several times for silverware and napkin. They put 13 ladies at a very small table.

Barrio Mexican restaurant offers a visually stunning ambiance with attentive staff, but falls short in taste consistency across dishes.Upon entering Barrio, one is greeted by a beautifully decorated environment and welcoming staff. However, the dining experience takes a hit when it comes to the food. The Taco Tower, though featuring a variety of fillings, disappoints with its lack of overall flavor cohesion. While the steak and shrimp were enjoyable, the chicken failed to impress, resulting in a lackluster taco experience overall. The Guacamole, unfortunately, adds to the culinary disappointment. Despite the pleasant surprise of the serving size, the taste leans heavily towards avocado, overshadowing other potential flavor profiles. This discrepancy in taste could have been avoided with clearer communication from the server regarding the serving situation.Despite these shortcomings, the staff at Barrio remain a highlight, offering attentive service throughout the meal. Additionally, the drinks provided a pleasant contrast to the underwhelming food, adding to the overall enjoyment of the dining experience. In summary, while Barrio Mexican restaurant excels in ambiance and service, it falls short in delivering consistently flavorful dishes. Despite the mixed experience, the restaurant shows promise with potential for improvement in taste cohesion and communication regarding menu offerings.

The drinks were very watered down. We had a pitcher of margaritas, and it was filled to the brim with ice and very watery (even if poured immediately). Drinks also took a very long time to come out. The atmosphere was clubby, we couldn’t hear other people talk at the table. The food was decent, but not great. The price is high, so the food has to be great to justify it.

Ana and Hector were top-notch! The tableside guacamole was catered to our spice level and flavor palette. Ana gave outstanding recommendations on food and drinks. Highly recommend the pineapple mezcal margarita! The atmosphere was comfortable and upbeat. Will come again ☺️

Came in for an early dinner while on vacation and it was above expectations. From the A+ tequila flights to the perfectly balanced dinners, we couldn't be happier. The margarita was delicious and there was something to make the kids happy, too. Definitely worth checking out! We'll be back next time we're in Chicago.
