This was our first time at Beatrix. It was happy hour. Our drinks came first. The Moscow Mules were flat. We let our waiter know. He immediately brought us another round that had more flavor. Soon after, our Prime Burgers were served. They were cooked the way we requested. The house-made giardiniera was a tasty addition to my burger. The fries were fresh and crispy. My friend realized he'd left his earbuds on the table. As we returned to Beatrix to see if they were still there, the waiter was about to call and let us know he'd retrieved them. Cool ambiance (especially the birds), good food, great customer service, correcting a misstep, and budget-friendly pricing will be the reasons I return to Beatrix.

I had the fish tacos and the fish was very dry and seemed like it had been cooked ages ago, and the tortilla was also very dried out. My wife had the straight A salad and liked it. Our server was very efficient.

I have been to Beatrix several times for breakfast and always enjoyed it. Decided to try it for dinner bringing friends for the first time. Our waiter was not as attentive as wait staff in the past. Saw him chatting away instead of properly servicing his tables. They only brought out 5 out of 6 dishes while many other tables were receiving theirs. It was way too long of a wait to get the last dish. I spoke to the manager who sent over complimentary dessert. I would have tater had an adjustment to the bill. Also one of my friend's steaks came out practically raw and had to send it back. Disappointed as I spoke highly of this restaurant to my friends visiting Chicago for the first time and it turned out to be a negative experience.

This review is solely about the 3.5% surcharge that is added to your check without a single word from the restaurant. We ate here last week and were surprised to see a 3.5% “restaurant surcharge” tacked onto our bill. This is such a dishonest practice and needs to stop.

Food was a bit of a let down. Avocado toast was bland and somewhat hard to eat (sourdough needs a better knife). Eggs over easy came out undercooked. Service and Atmosphere are fine. One small note when we arrived we were told of a 45 min wait, it was less than 5 ...

The ambience was great, however the food and service were disappointing. The lemon and blackberry pancakes were quite a small portion and horrible consistency. It seemed like they were made with egg whites and perhaps undercooked as they had a very light and eggy consistency - resulting in a very unpleasant mouthfeel. If they were supposed to be 'souffle' pancakes, they failed, and if so, they should have this listed in the dish name on the menu, as these are not your typical pancakes. Additionally, with only 5 x blackberries on the dish, this added nothing to the dish. The migas egg scramble was tasty, average portion, but nothing special. Our server seemed to be having a bad day as she was quite unfriendly. Based on this experience, we would not return.
