Caucasian barista working on October 22, 2025 at around 2:50 pm rude and perhaps racist. I walk out every time I see she’s behind the bar.

Their desserts are presented beautifully.
Unbelievable and unbeatable. New to this store(?)/restaurant… is totally a vibe. Just tried grab-and-go yogurt parfait (MUCH better than anywhere else), but salad bar looked amazing, and the ambiance is perfect for a quick hang to get some work done in an upscale setting.

This place is a true respite in the Loop. Perfect place to pick up a balanced, healthy lunch from the hot bar, or an excellent slice of Chicago pizza, truly incredible baked goods and coffees. The service is also TOP NOTCH. This is Chicago, and this place lives up to service with a smile, love it.

This place is located in the heart of the Chicago downtown — surrounded by professionals working in respectable companies and positions. Yet, the ventilation issue has been completely ignored for months, if not longer.
Every single time I stop by, even just for a quick coffee to go, I leave smelling like fried and boiled food. It’s unacceptable to return to the office reeking of kitchen odors.
This is not only unpleasant — it’s unprofessional and goes against basic etiquette in a workplace environment.
Please, fix your ventilation system. Enough is enough.
Nice spot for coffee and a snack. Meals looked good as well (just wasn’t that hungry). Staff at the coffee counter was very helpful.

I went there to have my last breakfast before leaving Chicago and the barista ruined it for me. It's so frustrating to tip and then get that kind of service. I clearly asked for milk in my coffee but she made it black. Horrible attitude too.

No human who knows and shows love, kindness, and compassion should ever have to step foot in a space they do not adore. If an establishment has bad service, burnt coffee, bland food, and lighting and decor that screams “corporation trying to come across as cozy”, then why would I subject myself to go in again and again. Because my beautiful wife works at DePaul? Because it’s closer than dunkin and starbucks? Because maybe I hate myself and my subconscious mind brings me back to the self sabotage that is Beatrix Market. Because in downtown Chicago, you will find not a single establishment that is personal or family oriented. You will find, over and over, suffocating corporate businesses trying to make a buck, devaluing the worker, and getting away with it. I say the service is bad because why would it be good? If I worked in a space that made me feel like I was suffocating, I wouldn’t be kind to my fellow man. What would be the point when not one suit will even ask my name or wish me a good morning? What would be the point when they only tip $0.50? What would be the point when my enrichment throughout the day is limited to one TV with sports news on, blaring music, and terrible tasting caffeine? No wonder our young generation can’t get off their phones, the outside world seems to have nothing to offer! Well, to the beautiful and kind red hair with glasses who offered a hello to me: there is a point to this cruel world. To laugh, to love, to smell the breeze by a lake, to hear a humble bumble bee buzz by your ear, to feel a tree’s ancient bark and absorb its wisdom. To experience the warm air outside the doors of Beatrix Market the day you get to leave the soulless cafe job.
To the reader: say thank you to your barista this morning. Ask them their name and where they’re from. Ask them their favorite song. Tell them a story. Annoy them if you must because the human connections we have throughout the day separates us from the animals.

We had a 5pm event downtown, arrived 4pm by train and wanted to catch a quick supper. Mind you, a salad bar was OK and the salad choices were pretty good. But we had no warning that any of the hot bars were shut off before the 5pm close. So, some disappointment. Still, we will keep this place in mind if we come in for a matinee.
Service here is great- friendly and fast. Good food options with a well designed floor plan.
Amazing salad options!
