Monarch & Lion, A British Pub

This is an excellent rendition of a traditional english pub reminiscent of my visits to UK. However, this is much more upscale and modern vibe with rich dark wood and high ceilings.

The food here was fantastic.

Their scotch egg using venison was what I expected. Crunchy breading on the outside and the tender meat was not gamey at all, and honestly would not have known it was venison if not mentioned. The soft boiled egg was perfectly prepared and adding course mustard to each bite gave it a nice zing.

But their redition of shepards pie using minced lamb and indian-inspired spices was a truly unique experience. Blending indian flavors and a hearty butter mash elevated this pie.

A definite must try for blokes that miss traditional UK dishes.

We were looking for a place to have a late lunch near the Riverwalk. Being November many places were closed. We stumbled on this pub and were delighted, when we stepped, in to see it’s a very tastefully designed British themed pub! At 3pm it was uncrowded and wonderfully quiet. The service and food were first rate and reasonably priced. With bookshelf lined walls and authentic British tableware the atmosphere is lovely.

We went to the restaurant around 7pm we were told by the hostess that we would have to wait until after 8pm to accommodate reservations, the place had a lot of open tables with the 1st reservation arriving around 8pm.

I recently visited Monarch & Lion and had an unforgettable dining experience. I started with a Porn Star Martini, which was expertly crafted and perfectly balanced—just the right blend of sweet and tangy to kick off the evening.

For the main course, I indulged in the Chicken Tikka Masala, and it was truly exceptional. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was rich and flavorful, with just the right amount of spice. Each bite was a delight.

I also tried the Prime Rib Sandwich, and it was out of this world. The meat was juicy and cooked to perfection, sandwiched in a fresh bun that complemented it wonderfully.

The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive without being overbearing. I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a memorable meal. Can't wait to return!

The ambiance here is great. I was not impressed with the food. We got steak frites, shepherds pie, and fish and chips. The fries are bland and oily and not crispy at all. The Shephards pie was spicy. The chimichurri that came with the steak was not great.

Came here for the happy hour on Saturday around 3:30. The server came to our table once then never came again, the place was not busy at all but yet he still never came. We wanted to order another drink but decided to leave instead. We had to ask another staff member for our bill as our own server never even came to check again.

Allan was the best server I had in a long time. He was very friendly and understanding. He answered any question my group had about the menu. If you ever around the Chicago area and want a great meal and excellent service, please stop by and ask for Allan.

Allan was excellent and the food was everything. Definitely will go back when I'm in Chicago again.
