I wake up, sleep in my eyes. The dim light from the winter sun behind the clouds, slowly getting dimmer, fills the room. I stretch, my joints creaking like packed snow. It's the late afternoon, nearly sunset. I realize I haven't been sleeping at all. I'm leaning on my right arm, slowly going numb, my computer, brightness and volume low, in front of me, moving quickly, like a moth, delicate and erratic: I've been watching YouTube videos. I remember waking up a few hours prior, making a small microwaved lunch. I remember the desire to go outside—no, there's nothing out there today, nobody for me.
I'm moving out of town soon. Though I'm optimistic about my new life, I have started to grieve Chicago, and as it fades away in my mind, it has fallen out of focus in the world. I am nowhere, unmoored. I've had quite a few days inside lately. The air in my room grows stale and dry, but going outside is still worrisome to even consider. And when I do go outside, there is a podcast in my ear, keeping me from seeing what's in front of me.
I must have had enough, because this evening, as I stepped outside, I was present again. Terminal lucidity though it may have been, I stepped outside and watched the snow fall. And I could see the air-snow substance contorting itself into the negative space of the buildings as it flowed through the city.
And I get to Benny's Pizza and I ordered a chicken salad. I know them for fried food (their side of shrimp comes with fries for a great price!), but, with the whole world suspended outside, along with the ready-made meals in my freezer, I was ready for something resembling freshness. And I will be honest, I did not have high hopes. No hole in the wall serving up heavy dishes is going to suddenly bust out a garden of fresh vegetables in the middle of January. I prepared myself for some slightly soggy iceberg lettuce, romaine if I was lucky, chicken strips, some cheese, and an outpouring of Caesar dressing.
My order is served, and the winter is over. The staff is super kind, asks me if everything looks good, if I need any other sauces. Ripe tomatoes, lettuce, spinach, onions, peppers. Well-seasoned chicken. Ranch dressing on the side (great to flavor how you choose! As you might expect I didn't have much today). And some garlic bread to boot! I took my first bite. I am still here. The food is good. I normally order their cheese fries and gravy bread with sweet peppers, pizza slices. They do have a lot of high school and middle school kids in and out ordering. Sit down option too. Workers are nice and cordial.

It had been a long time since I had pizza from Benny’s, I was disappointed with my order. I ordered 3 large pizzas and some fries. Two of the pizzas were slightly over cooked and the fries were cold. Pizza taste old.

It’s expensive! Food is not cheap! And they give you food from hours ago. I ate three pieces cause I was starving then I stopped. I called them and complained and they didn’t even offer to make another one. They just said oh well I’m sorry you didn’t like our service. That why it’s been a while that I ordered there but now I remember why I don’t get anything from there. Just careful when you starving, make better choices than this place.

I placed an order for pickup at 6:22 p.m. and when I got here at 7:00 which is when the app told me that I would be able to pick up for my order it was not ready they actually said that my order was never received here at all. While I was standing there for 2 minutes they finally received the order. They told me it was going to be 15-20 minutes. It's been an hour now and I still have not received my order.
This place is one of my favorites but today I went to get my favorite pepperoni slice and fries and when I got home to eat them they were horrible the pizza tasted old and the fire tasted like they had been reheated in the microwave wave, truly awful.

The staff was amazing!!! Very nice and friendly. This location has the best gyros in the pilsen area!! Food was not only Fast but Fresh!!! I will definitely recommend… I couldn’t add a photo because we all devoured it too quickly Lbvs. Check this location out when you are in the area.
