Chicago is our hometown, and as adults coming back, my brother and I have been intentional about reconnecting with our roots. Bronzeville Soul has become that spot for us. The food is always amazing, and when it comes out, it’s literally piping hot. You can feel the pride when they bring it to the table, making sure you’ve got everything you need. That kind of care sticks with you.
This past Saturday, we had a great conversation with a gentleman with dreads who spoke openly about the neighborhood—the ups and downs, but also the pride in keeping it strong. That authenticity is why we keep coming back. The music is amazing too—a little loud at times, but it adds to the energy and vibe.
What also matters to us is who’s behind it. This place is Black-owned and largely run by Black men who carry themselves with respect and pride. That means something. For us, Bronzeville Soul isn’t just food—it’s culture, community, and connection. It’s our last stop before flying back to Minnesota, and every time, it feels like home.

My cousin comes to Chicago quite often and he recommended I make a stop here on my way back home to STL. When I say it was one of the best stops I made in Chicago to eat! Most definitely will be on my stops for future visits!

I ordered from them yesterday, as soon as I placed my order....5 mins later I got a notification that my food is on its way (I knew my food wasn't gonna be right), when it arrived, it was cold like they just took it out the refrigerator! I have never had a bad experience at this restaurant, however it only take one time for my food to get messed up before I stop spending my money n this was it!!!

The food was good but not great, atmosphere was okay nice music, not nothing fancy about the ambiance or decor. I have a few issues though, the 15% gratuity is for what? There is no waitress, no server, no free water, plastic containers and plastic silverware this for dine in. You order your food they bring it to you in a to go container for dine in then no one come back to your table. Imagining cutting a porterhouse steak in a plastic container while dining in with a plastic fork, I had to ask for a knife. I think a better idea would be get your food to go and sit at the table and eat. Food was good..but this is a self service restaurant and I will come back only if im ordering to go.

It was clean and the service was ok, but the food it was just ok for me, the baked chicken wings had no flavor, the cabbage was ok, the sweet potatoes was pretty good., they give u a lot of food, but for me I would not go back.
Wonderful
Cornbread dressing had to much sage
Other than that it was fabulous 👌🏿
Absolutely Amazing!!

1st time coming to Bronzeville and the food was great! Yummy. Well seasoned. I chose Sweet Potatoes for dessert...best choice..so velvety.and perfectly seasoned.
I wasted my 40.00 dollars on this foods. I will never go here again
It was great this food is so fye I swear I give them 5 stars hands down
Listen, if you’re anywhere near Bronzeville and craving real deal soul food, don’t sleep on Bronzeville Soul. I had the catfish, candied yams, mac and cheese, and a sweet tea and everything came out hot and fresh, like steaming straight from the grease fresh. That catfish was crispy and seasoned just right. The yams were sweet and buttery, and the mac and cheese? Cheesy, creamy, and comforting like Sunday dinner at grandma’s.
You can tell they put love in this food. The customer service was on point, friendly and welcoming. The prices were more than fair for how much food you get big portions and big flavor.
There’s a little construction going on out front, but don’t let that stop you. They’re still open just follow the signs and use the entrance around the side. It’s super easy to get in.
If you’re looking for the best catfish or some of the best soul food on the South Side, this is it. I’ll definitely be back. Tell them Nicole sent you!

This was not a good experience for me. I’ve never had to pay for food first and then the restaurant run out of the food you order. It took over 45 min to receive one side. This is one restaurant I will not be visiting again. I’ve had better
