I lived in Chicago maybe 20+ years ago & had never eaten at Buona Beef. Now that I'm vegan & visiting Chicago for the first time in 7 years, I was excited to see a vegan option! Without the real thing to compare it to, I can't say how it stacks up but it was delicious! Messy but delicious! The cheese was a little salty (which the sandwich didn't need more of) and not really melted on the sandwich (which I wished for). I didn't need the side of sweet peppers but the hot giardiniera was fantastic. Service was quick & helpful. Not much "ambience" but there's plenty of seating inside & plenty of napkins (you're going to need them!). This place will definitely be on my list the next time I'm in town.

So when I came in to try the Italian beef I really expected something like a French dip, which I like a lot. The Italian beef was by far superior to any French dip I've had, the gravy was amazing. While in Chicago I also tried one of the competitor Italian beef and was gravely disappointed after trying this Italian beef.

Their food is okay. It's not top-notch, though. Pizza tasted like a giant lunchable. The Italian sausage is usually overcooked and dry. Most of the chicken dishes are bland. I've had better chicken nuggets at McDonald's than the tenders here. The only saving grace for me is the burger. It's not a bad burger and kind of gives off a backyard summer grilling feel to it. The place is cozy too and the staff is friendly. I'd go back if only for a beer and a burger.
This was my first experience trying the beef sandwich, traveling from New Orleans. The bread was soggy. I end up throwing it away, wasted my money ?

I had terrible experience, was finally giving correct sandwich on the 3rd try. By the time I received the correct sandwich, my fries were cold. I also did not get to enjoy my lunch with my partner. I was told by the manager Yazmin that I would get a credit by email which I am still waiting for. I’ve been going there ounce a week since they opened, but don’t think I’ll be back anytime soon.

This place is always fantastic! As a loyal customer I came in tonight and realized I forgot my wallet, I had enough loyalty points to order a free sandwich, but not fries.... So I asked the manager if she could possibly include fries and I would pay for them on my next visit. Without hesitation she threw the fries in for free..... Great food great service.
