I miss Burger King. For years, Burger King had a location at the southwest corner of Clark Street and North Avenue in the Gold Coast/Old Town neighborhood of Chicago, only a block from my home. How convenient. When I was working in Champaign-Urbana in the 1960s, there was a Burger King located only a block away from my residence. How convenient. I lived on a Whopper or two a day. And I was a weekly customer in Chicago. Then it closed. Now the closest location is at 1401 West Fullerton, at Southport, close to the busy intersection of Ashland, Clybourn and Fullerton to the west and the DePaul University campus to the east, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood. It isn't as convenient but the Whopper remains the same, Burger King's answer to Big Mac and Big Buford. In fact, Chicago has 45 locations, more than any other city in the United States. Open from 6 to midnight on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, 6 to 5 on Thursday, 5 to 5 on Friday and Saturday and 5 to midnight on Sunday, Burger King is a well known fast food chain serving grilled burgers, fries and shakes. It features a drive-through and offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is the second largest fast food company in the world, behind only McDonald's. But its breakfast menu is superior to McDonald's. Don't think so? Try the fully loaded triple croissant meal, a soft, flaky, buttery croissant piled high with thinly sliced black forest ham, sausage, thick-cut smoked bacon, fluffy eggs and melted American cheese. Plus hash browns and orange juice. For lunch, I always order a Whopper with cheese, 4.4 ounces of flame-grilled beef topped with thick-cut smoked bacon, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, ketchup, pickles and sliced white onions on a soft sesame seed bun. Also a Big Fish sandwich, white Alaskan pollock breaded with panko breading and topped with tartar sauce and pickles on a toasted brioche style bun. With salted French fries and an Oreo milk shake.

I am tough on fast food joints but Burger King Store 1455 is worth the walk. I stopped for a pick-me-up breakfast and this store delivered. The Burger King breakfast menu is larger, cheaper and more tasty that the new McDonalds menu. The size of the croissant bun is smaller but now actually a better fit for the rest of the sandwich which seems to be about the same size. I can order a sandwich, a meal, or 2 for $5.00, which is a good deal (2 double patty sandwiches are $6.00 but I really cannot eat that much lol). The best part was ordering from a real person who alerted me to the deal, smiled, and gave me jam for the sandwiches (a Canadian Mennonite thing!) Also, the restaurant and bathroom were clean -- how long has it been since I have visited a clean McDonalds or Burger King in Chicago? No ordering terminals, no security guards... just people ordering hot food and coffee.
So -- Xers and Boomers, if you want a fast food experience that reminds you of how things used to be -- and to order from a real person instead of an app -- go say hi to Victor at 1401 W Fullerton 👍👍👍. It is worth searching out 😉

I see the negative reviews here and that has just not been my experience. The staff is always polite, and they are going as fast as they can. Not sure why people have to complain if they don’t get their food in 2 minutes during the busy lunch hour. So, my usual order is Whopper with fries no onions no mayo. They get it right every time. It’s always just like I asked for. Today at 1:30 it was super busy. But they took my order with a smile, and I waited about 4 minutes for it. The only reason I took off one star is because they oversalt the fries. I have to brush the fries off a bit because there is so much salt on them. Other than that, this BK is great.

I live nearby.It’s a Burger King so I usually subscribe to the you get what you get mentality here. Went today before I had to work because I needed something fast and the drink machine was broken. Didn’t have time to get a refund and I felt bad for the worker who seemed to be working alone and was being swamped with people complaining about their drinks. I know corporate can pay to fix that. Also the atmosphere here is just generally bad, with usually a different creepy man in the dining area finding an excuse to talk to me while I wait for my food every time I go in.

Got a whopper and it was fresh and tasty. The worker was incredibly nice and friendly. I don't see it often in fast food, but he is a good one!. I think his name was Raymond.
