You can’t go wrong with Cafe El Tapatio! The drinks and the food are great and you’ll never walk away disappointed. One thing I will note about this restaurant is that seating is limited and is not best for large groups. If you’re dining as one person, there’s usually space at the bar.

Food is good. But we felt rushed. Food came too fast. Also very loud. Hard to have conversation

Last time I ordered tacos there wasn't even a spoonful of meat on them. Plus they are surrounded by rats in the alley and on the sidewalk.

Given its location in our neighborhood and the wonderful outdoor patio, we want to like this place but it has consistently been disappointing. :(
This place is a neighborhood gem. Great vibe and the owner Makes you feel like family. Sit at the bar and meet the locals. Don’t miss the churros next door. Authentic and made from scratch! don’t worry if you are gluten free the Gelato is out of this world!

God I love this place. I've been coming here for 25 years and my husband for over 33, and the food and service is consistently good and keeps us coming back. The restaurant has been at this location for 50 years, with small expansions and updates to the menu over the years, with the churro parlor next door being the newest addition. Some of the staff have been here 30~40 years. That tells you something about the way the restaurant is run (currently by the son who took over when his parents retired). El Tapatio really exemplifies the perfect neighborhood spot.
Now for the food -- there are so many good dishes that I keep like 10 things on rotation -- the Carne Asada, Costillos de Res en Tomatillo (short ribs), La Flaca, Sopa Azteca, Arrachera XX, the variety of tacos, Enchiladas Verde, Shrimp Fajitas, one or other of the pechuga dishes, and one of the camarones dishes. And I just added another one which for some reason I'd only recently started ordering -- the QuesaBirrias.
For drinks I rotate between the Perfida and a Taverna Margarita -- so delicious and refreshing that I can't bear to deviate...maybe sometime in the next 25 years I'll try the others too, lol.
Great place! Love everything about it, cant wait to go back!

Drinks and food were great after they got our orders correct. They gave my boyfriend the wrong burrito and gave me chicken when I ordered veggie. They corrected my order but still gave my boyfriend the wrong burrito. Although tasty, simple service accuracy would make this place go to a 5 star restaurant.

Mole enchiladas are INCREDIBLE! Only place I'll go to eat these. Love the queso fundido as well!
If I lived closer, I would eat here twice a week. They have incredible salsa, some of the best carne asada I’ve had and generally some of the best Mexican food in the city. The service is always immaculate and it has a great vibe on the inside (also a fantastic patio). Can’t recommend enough.

Food was solid. Made a reservation but was seated in the bar area which was simply too loud (wasn't expecting this for reservation, no bar/dining area option when making reservation).
Surprisingly, wonderful experience, driving by you would never think this unassuming looking place has such great atmosphere, service and food to offer!

They charged me twice the amount that was on my bill. I came in on Saturday at was billed for $41. The next day my bank statement says this establishment charged me over $80 for the same meal. I’m not sure how this happens but I’m incredibly disappointed and disputing with my bank.
