Every Chicagoan who loves fish has to try this place at least once. Its tricky to get to at first, but there's ample street parking once you do. I usually get some fried fish or shrimp and eat outside at the picnic tables. The big draw is the smoked fish though. The pepper and garlic salmon is amazing, and the plain lake trout is great too. The fish is always moist and smoky, not dry.

I love Calumet Fisheries. I've been a fan for 10 years and counting! I'm typically not a seafood person, but their catfish dinner, fried fresh right in front of you to an incredibly appetizing crisp, yet perfectly flaky and tender on the inside, makes me so happy every time I get to eat it. Sadly I don't live in Chicago anymore, so it's hen I do, I savor every bit of crispy, fishy goodness. So glad they managed to reopen after the fire!
Just keep in mind that it's cash only, so you should bring your own cash rather than get nickel-and-dimed by the ATM. It's a small hole in the wall kinda place, so seating is outside, or in your car if you drive. However you get there, it's worth the trip every time!

The smoked salmon was fantastic, some of the best I’ve had. The fried oysters were also delicious. I can’t believe I had never been to this amazing Chicago staple. Will definitely be visiting more often.

This is a “hole in the wall” establishment with some of the best fried shrimp and smoked fish that I’ve had in Chicago. It’s cash only but there is an atm on site. Service is what you’d expect from a fast food restaurant. The food is however fried to order.

If this place would invest on a dining soace they would be full everyday. First time in a Fishery and they ruined it for me cause my standards if fisheries now will be high. The smoked salmon and SMOKED SHRIMPS are top notch! Love the fried oyster and catfish too. Plus I think they make their own sauce. Locals were right this is actually a gem.

This place is truly the best! The service is exceptional, and the smoked fish is out of this world. The smoked shrimp in particular is a must-try — flavorful, perfectly prepared, and unforgettable. While some might point out the limited seating, it hardly matters when you can enjoy your shrimp or smelt on the nearby bridge, making the whole experience feel uniquely local and special.
This iconic gem consistently delivers the best smoked salmon my family has ever had. It’s easy to get to with a quick drive on and off the tollway, and the staff are always professional, kind, and efficient. Everything here feels top quality, from the food to the service. I especially recommend trying the garlic and black pepper smoked salmon — absolutely incredible. Highly recommended stop!
