The place was OK not great, just OK!You're not getting quality food as you think you're getting. Mash potatoes are instant boxes, not made home made or from scratch. Just a glop of mush!I dinner recommend you drop what you're doing to drop by. You're not getting everything advertised, and it's been sitting out all day. Their yams are from a can you can see that no love was put into the food.Maybe food quality has gone down since the owners split. So it's no longer a black pen business. It's now just a Hispanic woman who is trying to save what her and her husband started.Quality was not that great but happy to have try it to support local business.Your better off driving to Madison and eat at Mac Authers for a bit of more better soul food.

I Just called this spot to place an order. Instead of them taking my order and telling me how long it will be before it's ready, I was asked how long before I get there, then I was placed on hold for a nice while. I called back and I was told I was placed on hold cause customers came in. I asked for a supervisor and she said she was the owner. She again asked me how long before I would be there because they close in 15 minutes even though Google maps says 7PM and it was 6:15PM. I said I won't be(there), and hung up the phone. It Would have been my first time ordering from there but I'm good. Service has to be on point no matter how good the food might be. That's bad business to lose a customer before you even gain one! ?....it's understood that restaurants get busy, but when you answer and ask how long before I get there, WITHOUT taking my order, instead of taking my order and letting me know when it will be ready, was the problem. Then AFTER asked HOW LONG BEFORE I GOT THERE, I was placed on hold indefinitely. THAT was the problem.

Really enjoyed home cooked meal when I didn't feel like thawing meat and cooking sides at home! Pleasantly surprised that the atmosphere was friendly and the service was fast the food was good home cooked soul food. Good job Chef Daddy.Parking: Park in the church next door

Food is really good season very well and still came hot that alone makes me recommend because I ordered through door dash and given their service as a platform that alone is hard to do. Which means the food was made fresh and that reflects in the taste!However, the restaurant is getting an over all 3 stars because #1 the length of time it took for them to confirm they were making the order. #2 They forgot my drink which after waiting over an hour for your food REALLY annoyed me. If the food is this good I know the Koolaid was amazing which took away from the experience. #3 ordered an extra side to try their greens, potato salad, and macaroni. I got no potato salad and a lot of greens.I still say eat here! Food is super good and reasonably priced!!!! Next time i’ll be going in person just to make sure!

This was my first time ordering from here. Due to friends always ranting about how good the food is. I ordered the rib tips with collard greens and candy yam. 2pce meatloaf with Mac and cheese, smother pork chops with mash potatoes and string beans dinners. I never received my meatloaf dinner. The rib tips was boiled instead off the grill. I received cabbage greens instead of collards which was tasteless. Not to mention I had the water down bbq sauce all in the bottom of the bag. I won’t be ordering from here again.

My Husband and I ventured out yesterday after work from the south side in the snow, barely made the 7pm closing. I was greeted by Alissa who was very very nice. I picked up 2 chitlin dinners and a smothered pork chip dinner, could not resist a sample side of spaghetti and mac and cheese. We arrived home and sat down to eat this delicious food(I had been dying for chitlins and kept seeing all the good reviews) so glad we took the drive, everything was wonderful and thank you Alissa for throwing in that dreamy caramel cake, it was shared with the hubby. We will definitely be back again to try that dressing you mentioned!
