The servers were busy dancing and talking with each other even though the takeout orders was ready and they don't care. This is what happens when you hire more people than required.

Neurodivergent night every Wednesday is the best of the best. Dimmed lights, lower music level, noise cancelling headphones, fidget toys. And a sensory menu, in order of texture and flavor preferences! ? ?

Love the food - and so many options for Vegan/Vegetarian stuff here. Especially their Bathroom smells good - which is the most unusual thing I’ve experienced. Will return for a better time with friends or others - defs recommend.

An absolute MUST VISIT for any vegan/vegetarian visiting Chicago. This joint is a thriving institution for a reason: the BEST food served by the friendliest staff in the most casual vibe. My biggest issue is trying to decide what to get because I want everything. Portions are generous and everything tasty. Favorites include the Mexican Scrambled tofu bowl (spicy and savory and bursting with flavor), the Reuben (all the salt and chew you miss from when you ate meat), the biscuits and gravy, and of course the milkshakes. You’ll want to come with friends so you can share and sample more items.Vegetarian options: 100% vegan and their kitchen is nut free (though not their desserts).

Automatic 20% gratuity, but they don't mention it when giving you the card-reader, which also displays a tip screen. "A 20% gratuity is added for all dine-in. Tips are equally shared between all service team members."
I walked in and told the front desk hosts that I was going to look around the restaurant as I was meeting up with friends. They said "good for you." I found my party and then was looking back at the front desk who was still staring at me and did a shoulder shrug (like a deal-with-it shoulder shrug while mean mugging it at me). What a jerk and totally unprompted.

So many options for a vegetarian!! Usually there's a few options that I can choose from at most restaurants but had heard that Chicago Diner was a meat free diner and so I decided to check it out. I was not disappointed with the sheer number of options both vegetarian and vegan on the menu. There wasn't much of a wait even though we didn't have any reservations which was great because I came in HUNGRY. As someone who has heard how good reubens can be but can never have them as a vegetarian, I was excited to try the reuben on the menu. Service was efficient and our waiter was very nice and accommodating. The reuben was HUGE! It came with a side and I chose the sweet potato fries which were sweet with some salt for a perfect sweet and salty combo. The sandwich itself was a lot.. I think there was too much "meat" and it led to the sandwich falling apart after two bites. The flavor was nice and while I wouldn't get it again, I'm glad I tried it!
