Overall: A great sushi spot that we were able to walk right in without a wait, and is BYOB.
The good: Was able to walk in without issue. Service was friendly and relatively fast, and plenty to choose from. Sushi tasted fresh and the prices are affordable. BYOB too, which is always huge.
The not-so-good: Not top-tier sushi but still a good deal with lots of positives all around.

This is by far the best sushi you will find anywhere. Absolutely anywhere. They’ve been in business for at least 20 years or more for a reason. Try the angry salmon, not on the menu.

We were long time fans of Coast. I have been going there off and on for the last ten plus years. Unfortunately we had a really unpleasant experience on Saturday evening and will not be returning. husband and I were walking home from a fundraiser and decided we would stop into Coast for dinner. The host greeted us in a very unfriendly manner and mumbled something and walked away. There were two seats at the bar so we asked if we could sit there and received a non answer. Then the bartender and the hostess continued to quietly gossip about us. It was very odd as there were several open tables. I wrote a review on Google, which I received a response that their chef was backed up and that was the issue and to make a reservation moving forward. Interestingly we had checked for a reservation before we came and there were plenty open spots, so we assumed it was ok to walk in. I completely understand being understaffed and I have no issue waiting, it is the unkind and rude staff that did it for me. We felt very uncomfortable and like we were doing something wrong by even being there. There are plenty of places to go to for sushi in the city and I won’t be spending my hard earned money at a place that seems annoyed to have customers. We decided to check out Wakamono in lakeview on Broadway afterwards and the staff was very accommodating and didn’t chastise us for not having a reservation and the food was excellent.
We have been to Coast a few times before and it’s been great, but we walked in tonight to sit at the bar or get a table, whatever you as available and the bartender and hostess were so incredibly rude to us! There were empty spots at the bar and open seats, it was so bizarre. We won’t be back.

great neighborhood sushi spot. They fly in fresh fish from Japan daily and you can tell by how buttery and fresh it tastes. Would highly recommend to those who want a nice, quiet, quality sushi night.

Delicious, fresh food that is beautifully presented.
We came in for a couple of cocktails and appetizers. Service was excellent - perfectly attentive but in no way did we feel rushed. The menu was extensive and had the more traditional sushi offerings as well as more unique preparations.

Great neighborhood Japanese restaurant. Don’t miss the hamachi carpaccio, it’s the best thing on the menu and it’s not on the menu. Lychee mocktail is made with sprite and I subbed Perrier. Very light and the two lychees were a great touch. Some of the best nama sake nigiri; all the nigiri is top notch. Don’t forget to add a miso or spicy miso.

Best place in the city for quality sushi.
The fatty tuna was amazing. Sashimi portions are generous. I ordered way too much... salmon skin roll with requested jalapeño and cream cheese was heavenly and balanced per my cardiologist. Great place during the week...practically had the restaurant to myself. The cocktails are also delish. The lychee martini was so paradise!
Fantastic local sushi place! Definitely ask about their specials, tons of fresh fish and the fresh grated wasabi is so good. Definitely worth making the trip even if you don’t live in the area. The banana maki dessert was a great way to end the meal too.
Some of the highest quality fish you’ll find at a neighborhood sushi restaurant. Must try the fresh wasabi. Atmosphere is great for a date or dinner with friends.
Always a great meal and a great staff

I love coast sushi. The staff is very knowledgeable and very kind. ASK ABOUT THEIR SPECIALS. They always have exotic fish and give good recommendations. Their fresh salmon is best in Chicago. I always look forward to heading in to eat or carry out.
