Ordered to go and picked up within an hour. Absolutely THE BEST bourak I've ever had. We had the cheese, and cheese with spinach.
The people who own the place are friendly and kind. The chef was so sweet.
I'll need to go back and try other things on the menu

I bought some Burek and Cevapi on Saturday and thought it was very good. Some of the best I had in America. I love that Chicago has so many ethnic restaurants and this is one you should definetly try if you like Balkan or foreign foods.
They make good Bosnian food and the Cevapi looked like Sarajevo style Cevap. Minced beef, soft with raw onion, kajmak(kind of like sour cream but different), and this nice kind of crispy bread that holds the sausages.
The Burek was also really good. This is a meat pastry that is wrapped in a filo dough, cooked until a golden color. Quite tasty.
Give this place a try if you havn't yet!

Based on friend's recommendation, checked out D 4 cafe. Fantastic experience, friendly owners and authentic fresh cooking.
Environment: Classic no frill neighborhood location. Simple, clean and reminds you of dinner at home. Owner Edwin is very welcoming and happy to explain the menu items.
Food: Authentic home cooking, made by owner's parents, it is made fresh daily with the the labor of love from scratch. From parents made cheese, pita to the cevapi, to the kafe... all was a wonderful experience.

I don't say this lightly, this is the perfect restaurant experience. The food here is made with love and care and you definitely taste it! The bread, meat, AND the sauces are all made by the owners who are an elderly couple. Definitely recommend asking for a side of ajvar as it does not come by default. As a bread snob, I found lepina to be exceptionally good. The food will take time but that is exactly why this is an awesome experience - food is fresh and you don't feel rushed one bit. The lady who served us could not have been more friendly, 10/10 for service.
The restaurant is bang opposite a small park and lake area and walking there is a perfect post meal activity.

This place is such a gem. It's a family run restaurant with the son running the front of house and the mom and dad cooking everything fresh in the back. And by fresh I mean f-r-e-s-h. Like you will wait 45 minutes for a burek because they are making it from scratch to order in the back. Everything was really good and hearty, and quite affordable.
The owners are super warm and friendly and we saw a lot of regulars stopping in to say hi, hearty laughs, the boss sitting down with customers to just chit-chat; it had a really laid back neighborhood gem vibe. Seemed like a lot of return customers.
We will return for sure!

This is the best place for authentic Bosnian Ćevapi here in Chicago. The chicken sandwich is also a must try.

D 4 Cafe on Western is a cozy, no-frills spot that serves up some of the most authentic Bosnian food in Chicago. I stopped by for lunch and ordered the cevapi with lepinja and a side of ajvar. The cevapi were perfectly grilled, juicy, and flavorful, nestled in soft, fresh lepinja bread. The ajvar added a nice kick, complementing the dish beautifully. The service was warm and welcoming, making the experience even better. If you're craving authentic Balkan cuisine, this spot is a must-visit.

Feels like back home. Tastes like it too!
Possibly the best burek I had in years. Large size portion, won't go hungry, and can take leftovers home. Perfect crust, plenty of filling, all together just right combination. Made fresh per order (so had to wait until baked) but if I live closer to Chicago would be a regular at D4.
We came in as a large group on a Sunday afternoon. It was obvious we were a lot, but the proprietor took it in stride. A few people ordered food, which looked and smelled amazing. Most of us got Bosnian coffee and it was delicious. This is a good spot for a bite and a drink, whether that's coffee or alcohol.
Legit one of the best lowkey spots on the North Side. I came through with a buddy and we split the cevapi, a burek, and a side of ajvar—came out to around $35 total. Everything tasted homemade, like something your grandma would make if she was from Sarajevo. Super chill vibe, service was friendly, and the coffee hit hard. Definitely coming back for more. Hidden gem, for real.
Very tasty ćevapi 😋
The ćevapi here are delicious — juicy, smoky, and packed with flavor. Paired with soft somun bread and creamy kajmak, every bite is pure perfection. Thank you!
