This is a disgrace to soul food. My first visit was February 3025 I bought the turkey wing and dressing meal. The grease on top of the dressing was thick like I was about to pan fry the wing. The dressing was ok. My second visit was 6/16/25: I called first to see if they had dressing because that’s all I wanted and trying to support black business: He claimed “I just cooked a fresh pan”. Cool. I get there he gives from the pan on the bar and says this the last: I’m like I just called and you said a fresh pan was just cooked. He says oh no that must been the other guy: That dressing was nasty with finger size bell peppers.in it. The rest of the food on bar was dried out. His attitude was nasty like the dressing: keep looking if you want good soul food to go: better yet cook your own it most definitely will be better than Dan’s

Very disappointed! ordered a vegetarian plate, yams and banana pudding. The portions were small, dressing was dry and no cranberry sauce. They were out of banana pudding so they sent me a bread pudding 🤢. I don't eat bread pudding!!

I made the mistake of purchasing my Easter Dinner here & I was disgusted! I've been eating here for years & the food & service has been on the decline for quite sometime now, the food has become less then horrible, not only did the food taste old but it's also incredibly overpriced for the portion sizes & the staff is worse than the food, they're rude, unprofessional & bummy, this place has become a bad joke, thank god for Ooo Wee & Bronzeville Soul, my family & I will never patronize this establishment again & I'm gonna encourage my friends to do the same. Congratulations Dans Soulfood, your atrocious food & sub standard service just caused you to lose a long time customer & I can guarantee that anyone who reads this, will not see a reply from the owner, because they obviously don't care anymore. They should just close before they get sued from making somebody sick!!! If you like good food, you should definitey eat somewhere else.

Food was ok. The macaroni was out of the box, the dressing was ok. The serving size of the food is like giving a kids meal. I wanted to try the yams but they wanted 3 dollars to put it on the plate because it's considered a dessert. No way

Worse soul food I ever had! The first red flag was they do not take orders over the phone. I should've asked for price confirmation because they were different from online. 10 dollars more, the reason I took a picture and posted it so no one else will be smacked in the face.
Everything was horrible, even the cornbread muffins they gave for free. I wouldn't give that food to a homeless person! I spent almost 70 for two, bland, dry, old tasting food! It taste like they're facing Bankruptcy for their shady practices and haven't learned.
Customer experience is everything! Customers keep your business alive or it will die! When you try to cut corners with cleaning the place or food you can see, feel and taste it! It smelled like something died in the wall however I gave them the benefit of the doubt 🧐 thinking maybe it was meat they threw out.

Any who, the business appears to be a cover up for something else because the food is clearly not the priority 😔!

Tried Dan's Soulfood for the first time. My mother ordered chicken, dressing, greens and mac and cheese. Never again. My mom says the food was bland and the cook looked very dingy. He looked very unkempt. Dirty hands and appearance was very poor. She couldn't finish the meal because it was terrible! Sad!
I am going to try to refrain from realllllly going in on how terrrrrrible the food was because at least the guy was nice. That is the only reason he is getting 2 stars. He seemed so very nice and attentive that I overlooked a red flag. I asked him what his favorite side was. He hesitated and I insisted that he tell me. He then said "I'm vegetarian." But still he proceeded to say his favorite side was the spaghetti. Ummm The spaghetti has beef in it. Soooo that response puzzled me. Now after tasting that horrendous spaghetti I am left offended that a professed "vegetarian" would stand behind the counter after having presumably cooked all that meat including greens & such with meat in it and serve it to me. Likely he didn't taste it then because it was alllll bad including the dressing! I have taught my son to never serve anything to anyone that you have cooked but haven't tasted. That seems right to me. Surely he doesn't taste that food because how could he and charge anyone for it. Lemme inform you all now that the prices listed online are woefully inaccurate. I wanted short ribs but I discovered while there that they are $30! So I settled on the smothered chicken for $15.99. That seemed reasonable except I wanted to throw it allll away. It came with dressing that was the WORST dressing I ever had in my half a century of life! It had an aftertaste that was sour! I couldn't believe it. I wondered what ingredient could give it that sour/bitter aftertaste. That smothered chicken was really underflavored. I wanted to cry because I bought 2 of those meals. The mac & cheese was the WORST TOO and dry-ish and didn't taste right. Glory greens from the CAN tastes better than the lil bit of greens he served me. I was astonished by how terrible they were. How can you go wrong with Mac n cheese and greens and smothered chicken???! Well...the absolute worst was the spaghetti. He said, I am a vegetarian. I should have turned around and walked out. I haven't been so disappointed by food in a long long time. I'm writing this review so maybe Dan's will DO BETTER some day but I deeply regret the money I spent there and I think no one else should have that same regret. Get someone in there that knows what good food tastes like or something! And lower your prices. That is a lot of nerve to charge such prices for such terrible food. I didn't try the peach cobbler yet (I'm scared) but I might add that the sweet potato pie looked very unappealing. It was the ugliest and lumpiest sweet potato pie I've ever seen. I'm inclined to think it is made with doo doo. There I said it because truly that was my first impression. I had to ask was that sweet potato pie. SMH. I should have just left. Lastly even the cranberry sauce seemed off...What a waste of money & time.

I ordered a bake chicken meal. The macaroni was watery, the dressing was dry, the chicken was also dry, an the corn bread looked old. Very small portions and the food is overpriced. The guy that is on the register has a nasty unwelcoming attitude. Will not be returning, hate I wasted my money!

The food and service is excellent. The prices are very reasonable. Mr. Dan is very awesome and very polite. I would definitely come back. Also, I would recommend this restaurant.
