What a gem! Great food, great service, great location- so easy to get to. We came for lunch and had the veggie combo- super delicious. Definitely coming again!

The best Eritrean restaurant in Chicago! I prefer Den-Den over the pantheon of Ethiopian restaurants in Chicago. Den-Den's superlative food is a highlighted, featuring the best Ye Beg Alicha, veggie plate, and awaze. They also serve the best Tej in the city, and their injera is uniquely made without the over abundance of wheat. The Tej is salient. The coffee ceremony is also a highlight. My family lingers and enjoy the atmosphere staying for two or more hours during our visit.

I cannot for the life of me understand why this place is empty when I walk past it. The food was exceptionally good, the service was quick and attentive, and the inside is pretty with nice music. The prices being completely reasonable for the amount is the cherry on top as well. I highly recommend this place, both for people who are familiar with eastern African food as well as those looking to try something new.

Den Den Restaurant on Clark Street in Chicago is an extraordinary five-star gem that immerses diners in the rich, aromatic world of Eritrean and Ethiopian cuisine, where every bite tells a story of tradition and flavor mastery. The injera flatbread serves as the perfect tangy canvas for vibrant dishes like the zigni beef stew, simmered to tender perfection in a berbere-spiced sauce that balances heat and depth with fresh vegetables, while the vegetarian shiro offers a creamy, garlicky chickpea delight that’s both comforting and complex. The cozy, culturally adorned space buzzes with warm hospitality from the staff, who guide you through the communal eating style with genuine enthusiasm, making it ideal for sharing plates and creating memorable moments at prices that feel like a gift for such authentic, generous portions. Whether you’re a spice aficionado or new to East African fare, Den Den delivers an unparalleled dining experience that leaves you satiated, inspired, and already plotting your return.
The food was absolutely delicious and the server/owner was so kind! She gave us extra injera and free tea at the end of our meal.

Nothing to shout about. Then lamb had an undercooked piece, and quite bland. The chicken is better. Had better elsewhere.

Absolutely delicious food and the literal best coffee you’ll ever have in your life. Make sure to order the coffee early as they roast the beans in a pot and it comes out later in beautiful presentation.
Low key and quiet atmosphere, prices are very fair. Been going to this place for years, such a gem!
