Great dim sum, quick service but limited vegetarian options.

Best Dim Sum in Chinatown

Quick service. We had a room to ourselves for 6 people. They forgot to give us 1 item but remedied it when we told them.

This place came recommended to me, and it certainly seemed popular, bustling around brunch time.
The interior itself is quite ratty, with especially the booth seats completely torn to shreds (see picture)
The short ribs I ordered were unfortunately extremely chewy, gristly, and drowned in sweet sauce that really impacted how much flavor of the actual meat came through.
Similarly, the turnip cake was sticky and otherwise greasy and flavorless.
The desserts were a bit better, with especially the durian-filled pancakes a small highlight.
The taro dumplings, too, as nice as they looked, were stone cold and tasted of nothing except old grease.
The custard rolls were middling - not very flavorful and very starchy/floury tasting.
Overall, a huge disappointment, and I would urge you try any of the other Dim Sum places nearby instead.

I always like to get dim sum here. I like the fried pot stickers, deep fried stuff meat in rice crepe, shrimp roll, su mai, shrimp dumplings. You won’t find any free parking in Chinatown but Dolo.

They don’t have window shades to block the sun my seat was directly being hit uncomfortably. That’s all, everything else including the piping hot food was great

I was initially going to describe Dolo as a small, hole-in-the-wall dim sum spot in Chicago’s Chinatown, but then I remembered how long the line was to get in. Fortunately, my group came prepared with reservations. The food was excellent for the price—less than $100 for five people, which would easily be about $200 in the Bay Area. We ordered a lot, but the standout dishes were the egg custard tarts and shrimp dumplings. Despite ordering two rounds of tarts, my family devoured them all before I even got a taste! You can skip the mango pudding, though. One unique item we tried was the fried sweet potato crepe balls. We weren’t sure what to expect, but they had a crispy exterior, with a chewy, mochi-like sweet potato filling and a molten cheesy sauce inside—be careful biting into them! If I go back to Chicago, Dolo will definitely be on my list again. And next time, I’m getting my own order of egg tarts!

I had to give this place a try after seeing them receive a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand. The pricing is amazingly affordable considering the portion size and high quality. The food came out quickly, and the complimentary tea was a nice bonus. The location is just a short walk from the main Chinatown area, and there’s also a small parking lot. The rest of this review is for each item that was ordered.

The Pork, Shrimp, and Clam Dumplings were my favorite, with no trace of grit and a delicious briny ocean flavor. The Shrimp Crepe (cheung fun) was great, except for a stray shrimp shell that made it less appetizing. The Preserved Egg Pork Congee was okay, while the preserved egg and congee itself were tasty, the pork lacked flavor. The siu mai and har gow are my go-to choices at dim sum, and they were solid, meeting my expectations. The other items I tried, including Taro Cake, Dolo Shrimp Dumplings, and Chicken Feet with Black Bean, were also well-prepared and good.

Great dim sum experience. We ordered so much food (party of 8) and ate most of it. Just a few boxes to take home. The pancake scallion was the only thing I didn't really enjoy. It seemed to lack a lot of flavor. Everything else we ordered was excellent. The egg tart's buttery and flaky crust was perfect. All the dumplings were good. I could go on. I would love to come back here again on my next trip.

This is a go to place for my family now. The price and food quality is top. You can always get fresh dim sum here.

Parking: There is a free parking lot but it is very small. I am almost never being able to find parking there.
