These are some of the best tacos I have had in Chicago. The tortillas are handmade and the meat is just one of the best ever. I highly highly recommend this place. Being Mexican, I don't like to pay more than 2.50 per taco but it is what it is. Multiple places are raising their prices.

Cashier lady was very rude and unprofessional. The portion of food was very small for the price. My tacos were very salty. The cook was not wearing plastic gloves to serve my food. I won’t go there any more.

Grabbed food for pick up: Birria taco was okay, a little salty for my taste. Downfall was the consomé it was literally a small dish filled with flavored oil (also salty).Employees seemed kind. Would not return for the food.

Definitely a few changes since the new ownership. But some of the old classics are still there. And some new interpretations. Service was adequate. Food was fresh and hot.

Had lunch here and was informed that the restaurant is under new ownership. I could tell by the ambience and new menu that it is. It is such a shame because on my last visit, the food was not as good. They took down great items off the menu. They changed the salsa recipes. One of them tasted strange. No more red mild, green, and hot orange salsa. Those were the best but now it’s a tasteless spicy red and green salsas. I had quesadilla which was fine and an Al pastor taco which was ok.The torta that one of my companions ate was fine they said. It’s about on par with the old one but it’s not the same.Hopefully they fix this and bring back crucial parts of their business. I might not return back. We have been regular customers since they opened

So disappointed. They took half the menu items away and two things I always get: the chicken Tonga taco and the tostada with chorizo. And my usual third I always got was fish tacos, which are now grilled not fried and just blah. Got the chicken taco, which is grilled now too, and bland as hell. I’ve been eating there since it opened regularly. Won’t be back. Obviously clueless new ownership.

I stopped by to grab a few of my favorite menu items only to find out the the restaurant is under new ownership and recive an AWFUL experience. My Togo order took literally 30 minutes to arrive and after I questioned what was taking so long and how I was displeased I got a simple “oh…what’s your name? Uh ok” only to wait an additional 3 minutes. When I got in the car I checked my order and saw that my consommé was not put in my bag so I had to drive back to get it where once again I wasn’t even given an an apology. I then went to unwrap my grilled fish taco (fried fish is gone) and it was the tiniest $5 taco I have ever seen in my life with fish that was so mushy I felt like I was eating fish flavored mash potatoes. Everything else I ordered was just meh…so after wasting $41 on 3 items including a $5 tip I now know that under this new ownership both food and service has gone downhill….

A sad end to a great place. This place has new owners and they have decimated the menu. Half of the old menu is gone. Homemade tasting food now is hopelessly corporate tasting. Don’t waste your time or money. The real El Carrito is gone. ???

The beans have no taste at all. The birria tacos are really far from being the best. The meat needs flavor and the consome tastes heavily like ginger. $17 for the plate of birria tacos which includes 3 tacos and rice and beans but the flavor is way off. However my Fiance had a torta with steak(arrachera) and it was great!

Really great service, tasted like home cooking, cool atmosphere and not too crowded so I was able to enjoy even more... we recommend the torta de asada and tacos

The quality of food and service has tanked since the transition to new ownership. I’ve been eating here for the past 5 years and was saddened when I visited last week and ordered fish tacos. I was served half a tilapia fillet- approximately the size of a fun- sized Snicker you give the kiddos at Halloween but not as thick. The rest was slaw. The taco was mostly slaw on a half cooked corn tortilla. Also, ordered a large horchata and received some fake sickly sweet liquid. No longer have the authentic Horchata or Jamaica. I’d like to note that I sat in and ate my meal at the establishment and waited a for 30 minutes for 3 fish tacos. It never (NEVER) took that long before new ownership. To wait that long for the quality of food that was served was ludicrous! The new team have very large shoes to fill and right now they are barefoot! Left and ended up eating Smash Burger that night. Unfortunately, I won’t be revisiting.

Food quality is good but the value is not there $15 for torta and a drink and the torta is not that big. If I would've got a large torta that would've been fine but don't charge me for a lot and give me a little

Top to bottom, the menu is delicious. Everything we order every time comes fresh, is presented beautifully and tastes amazing. This is a quality restaurant. Highly recommend the Pombazzo and the Flautas.

I had a fish taco and a veggie taco. The veggie was tastier. Good combo of veggies, cilantro n sauce. The fish is deep fried tilapia, so i didn't care for it as much cuz the breading was kinda hard. I'd go back though!
