Cute neighborhood gem. The enchiladas en mole were but the flautas en mole were better. We'll be back with our own tequila (it's BYOB).

El Xangarrito is a gem. The presentation and flavors of every dish I've tried are some of the most creative Mexican food I have had. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the staff make you feel like you have been invited into their home. The prices are very reasonable for the level of food and service you receive. Their mole sauces leaves me craving more, and I am not usually a fan of mole. If you have not tried El Xangarrito, I highly recommend putting it at the top of your list.

Amazing food! The best Mexican in the city. Food presentation and flavors are on point with a Michelin star restaurant. Fantastic service and ambiance too! We love this neighborhood gem!

First visit! Everything was a 10/10. Service, ambiance, food presentation, and the flavors! Waiter was friendly and passionate about his job. I will definitely be coming more often!

Comfort food prepared expertly. A tough balance to strike, but El Xangarrito threads the needle perfectly. This team knows their craft. Not to mention, the service was incredibly genuine. Goes pound for pound with any Mexican cuisine I’ve had in and around Chicago.

I just loved everything about this restaurant. The food was amazing, our waiter was extremely helpful and friendly, and loved the overall ambiance. Everything our waiter suggested was fantastic and there is no doubt in my mind this is now one of my favorite restaurants in Chicago. And it’s BYOB! Can’t beat it and we’re definitely going to be back.

We made our second visit to El Xangarrito last night and had another wonderful meal. The food is excellent. The space is cozy and the service is great. Super friendly. This is a great spot. Note: BYOB. They do offer a margarita mixer and you need to call day before to order.

A real gem. Fabulous food, deliciously and thoughtfully crafted. The chef really knows how to showcase Mexican ingredients and recipes. The service at this family-run business is amazing. It’s a small and intimate place that leaves a big impression. We will be back!

I can't believe I haven't reviewed El Xangarrito before now. Right down the block from where we live and quickly rose to the top of our list of favorite Chicago restaurants after our first visit. The menu! The food! The marvelous service - so friendly and helpful! The cozy atmosphere! Our hearts were broken when they took their hiatus and we thought they weren't coming back. We may be able to walk there, but for anyone else, it is well worth the drive.
