The other reviews were true, this is the best Chinese food you’ll ever have. It all tasted so fresh and homemade. Definitely somewhere I’ll return when I’m back in Chicago

Food awards in the entrance are from the 1980s and 90s. Believe me it has declined. Food was just below average, small portions. They didn't come and check on us. Had to get up and walk to them to ask for som red pepper. Go somewhere else.

Great place for a sit down dinner with a bit less noise. All our food was delicious and served very quickly. Nice staff. Priced good. Would go again.

We had the Peking Duck. The waiter prepared the duck for us at table side. Suggest the fried chicken rice and the egg rolls.

The gyozas are bigger than golf balls. The mapo tofu is heaven.
The dining area is on the smallish side and a bit crowded, but with food like this, I would sit on the floor.

I took my elderly brother here for takeout, and the experience was extremely disappointing. The person who took our order barely spoke to us, rushed through the process, and when we asked about beverage options, he just pointed instead of answering. His demeanor was cold and rude.
However, when a white group walked in right after us, his behavior changed completely. He greeted them warmly, spoke clearly, showed them to their seats, and even smiled. I observed this same polite treatment with every other white customer who came in after.
When I pointed out the difference in how we were being treated, his response was to ask if we wanted to sit, which felt dismissive rather than sincere. When our food was finally ready, he handed it to us with a flat, dry “here, thank you, goodbye.” I will never return to this establishment. The only reason I did not request a refund was because my brother was hungry and needed to take his medication. No one should be made to feel unwelcome or treated differently because of who they are.
SUPER CLEAN THE MEAT IT TENDER WND SEASONED SO WELL! And they gave us fortune cookies and a almond cookie :) My new fave spot besides lao sze

Emperor's Choice is my go-to Chinese restaurant in China Town. Great food and excellent egg rolls. Must try the generals chicken. Been going here for over 20 years.
2025 Update, Emperors Choice is still the best Chinese food in town! Had a lunch special today and it was amazing.
The food was tasty and the portions were good. The staff were also very friendly and helpful to guide me through the Chinatown public parking validation. (eg. 10 dollars off the total)
