Amazing little coffee, giant, extremely friendly staff, and great fresh coffee, pastries, and breakfast tacos!
Stepping into Engine Coffee, you're greeted by a sense of considered calm exposed brick, soft lighting, and wooden accents that feel both grounded and quietly modern. The ambiance doesn’t scream, yet it leaves a lasting impression of intentional comfort, whether you're nestled at the counter or sharing a cozy corner.
The flat white I had was beautifully balanced smooth and rich, with subtle sweetness and no bitterness. Paired with a lightly sweet cardamom cookie, it turned a pause into a moment worth savoring. The service was respectful and focused, giving just enough attention without ever feeling rushed.

One of the better coffee shops in chicago but waited over 20 mins for my croissant to be warmed up and when I went up to ask bc I wasn’t called at all about it, they told me it was ready… that was a little frustrating but apart from that the coffee was made pretty well and fast. Almond croissant was to die for tho so i guess it was wroth the wait?
Edit: The barista was so nice and made my coffee again with less milk bc I like my espresso strong. The bay leaf latte wasn’t sweet and tasted like a herby vanilla latte, probs wouldn’t get it again but it was nice trying it out! They are probably one of the coffee shops In okay with getting with whole milk and not oat!

I tried the iced Americano and iced oat milk latte, both were decent, but the flavor was a bit too mellow for my taste. I’d probably add an extra shot next time to get a bolder coffee profile. I was hoping to grab something from their bakery selection, but most items were already gone when I visited around 1 PM on a weekday, so get there earlier if you’re looking for food.
The environment is cozy and definitely a nice spot to study or work. That said, I had some issues with the Wi-Fi being unstable and weak, which made working a bit frustrating.

I didn’t appreciate the interaction I had with the barista, but the coffee is good.

Good coffee. I tried their Samoan cake (donut), and it was so good. That made my morning after a busy evening of moving prior.

Great place for either a quick coffee to go or to sit down to do some studying. Their cold brew is my favorite along with one of the Aya Bakery pastries that they carry. Definitely recommend if you are in the West Town area!
Great stop, incredible vibes. Good coffee good food. Glad to have them in the neighborhood
Tasty cortado serving Metric coffee. Seating inside and out, relaxed atmosphere.
Great coffee shop. Good coffee and pastries. Terrific space
Just a random stop, they serve Metric coffee and Sprit Tea here. Very simple and cleanly decorated atmosphere, nice seating and friendly staff oh, bathroom A+. Served an Excellent Cortado, the artwork was super crisp, I was impressed.
