We love Estrella Negra! Oto, the owner and chef, treats us like family. The spinach artichoke empanadas are fantastic. The wings are award-winning. I'm obsessed with the vegetarian pozole, and my friends are in love with the red omnivorous pozole. We like coming for dinner and brunch.
We usually have family birthday celebrations at Estrella Negra. The warm atmosphere, friendy staff, and affordable prices make it the perfect spot.

Vegetarian verde pozole was delicious. Donāt be scared because thereās no meat ā flavorful and filling! Cocktail and burrito bowl were also solid. Bartender was very friendly. Canāt wait to go back and try more things off the menu.

Seven years ago, was a great spot. Now $20 for loaded fries and $30 for tomales?!??? You all forgot who you are and what you serve ! I get it, inflation sucks but Damm dude, nobody is going to pay this! Good luck with your closing!

The service is consistently outstanding, and the food is authentic, delicious, and made with incredibly fresh ingredients. The meat quality is truly top-notch, and the portions are perfect. The drinks are the cherry on top. Our family of four loves dining here, and itās also become a favorite spot for spontaneous date nights for my husband and me. Highly recommend!

If I could give this place more than five stars, I would! Everything here is a hit. The guacamole is incredibly fresh, the margaritas are spot on, and honestly the entire menu delivers. We tried the Poblano Surf N Turf burger and the goat cheese quesadilla too both were delicious, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. And whatever you do, donāt skip dessert. Every single one we ordered was amazing, so just do yourself a favor and get them all. This is officially one of my favorite spots. Highly recommend! š®šš°š¹

5/5 ā If I could give it 17 stars, I would.
Walking into Estrella Negra felt less like entering a restaurant and more like stumbling into the coolest underground art party you were never cool enough to be invited to. The dĆ©cor? A glorious collision of Chicago edge, DĆa-de-los-Muertos soul, and pure personality. The vibe is immaculate ā like your wildest friendās living room if your wildest friend also happened to be an award-winning chef.
But letās talk food, because MY GOD.
Where has this been all my life?
Then came the tacos.
Not just any tacos ā Estrella Negra tacos, which apparently exist on a higher plane of existence. Every bite was a perfectly engineered explosion: tender meat, fresh toppings, handmade tortillas that taste like someoneās abuela blessed them personally before they hit the plate.
And the Chilaquiles?
Listenā¦ Iām convinced these could end wars.
The drinks? Dangerous. Delicious. Too smooth. The margaritas taste like summer vacation in a glass ā the kind of drink that tricks you into thinking youāre fine until you stand up.
Service?
Absolute A+. Friendly without hovering, funny without trying too hard, and somehow psychic about exactly when youāre ready for the next round.
Estrella Negra isnāt just a restaurant ā itās an experience.
Itās the place you bring someone when youāre trying to impress them.
Itās the place you go when you need a mood lift.
Itās the place you think about days later, wondering if itās socially acceptable to go back for the third time in a week.
If youāre anywhere near Chicago and you donāt try this spot, you are making a mistake. A life-choice-level mistake.
