My wife & I live in the West Loop and have access to many great food options. Our go-to Mexican restaurant is Estrella Negra in Bucktown/Logan Square. It’s the only place we make the effort of leaving our neighborhood for. Food is excellent and fresh. I love their tacos and quesadillas, my wife loves their empanadas and flautas. Estrella Negra offers a mixed bag experience. Our server, Albee provided excellent and attentive service the initial impression was marred by a rude and unpleasant bartender/hostess. Unfortunately, the food itself was mediocre and the small dinner plates made for an awkward dining experience with food threatening to spill. To add to the discomfort the restaurant was cold during our meal. Estrella Negra just needs to address its front-of-house customer service.
