On 1/23/2026 Folklore posted that “cold nights are calling for your favorite comfort foods at Folklore” in the early afternoon. We planned a night around this reservation and proceeded to go there in -2 degree weather. The lights were on but the door was locked. One person came to the door and just kept telling us that he could not hear us without ever coming to speak to us and then waved us off. Nobody ever acknowledged this through OpenTable or on their social media.
This restaurant is fantastic. The ambience, food, and service were all perfect. The portions are huge; consider doing a side with one entree for two. Or take delicious leftovers home. You will not be disappointed. I dreamt about the flan the next day.
My daughter and I had a wonderful dining experience. The food was delicious and the service was top-notch. Would love to go back again.
Delicious authentic parilla experience. Just like a night out in Buenos Aires. Argentine beef is a special treat prepared by a masterful asador. Some of the best chimichurri north of the equator. Put it on everything!
Really nice and romantic atmosphere, great for a date night. The candles on the tables were a lovely touch. The service was wonderful. The food was spectacular, literally the best gnocchi I've ever had, and that's really saying something. Also loved the mashed potatoes, empanadas, and the marinated eggplant.

Had a delicious ribeye, good service, and some great layered dulce de leche cake at the end. Delicious! Only thing was beer selection was a little slim, but the wine was great!
This place is wonderful and will knock out any chain steakhouse off when it comes to grilled steaks. Perfectly seasoned. You do not need to add salt or pepper or any seasoning. Generous portions and the tomato salad that comes standard is perfection. Mashed potatoes are smooth and flavorful, fries are fantastic. We also ordered the folklore salad and this was also stunning. The ambience was nice. Though the dining room was full we could still have a quiet conversation. The lighting is dim and perfect, and dinner by candlelight is always a delight. The staff are patient, attentive, and friendly. Eat here. It is perfect for date night, a gathering of friends, or to meet with family. Prices are reasonable, and the food excellent. Parking on division is easy and if public transportation is your ride this is easily accessible as well.

We love this gem in Wicker park. Food is consistently delicious. Big fan of their drinks too.
Just wasn't impressed! It was average quality with prime pricing. Service was good but place was empty.

Food was delicious but they took 30/45minutes to bring out the antipasto then immediately brought entrees and the server was thrown off that everything was out at once and there wasnt enough space at our table. Our entrees were also incorrect.... But still delicious, at least. Also i put in the notes that it was my partners birthday and by dessert i had kind of given up because they clearly never saw the note/they did nothing
The food and ambience are good here. But as for the service… why do I have to pack my leftovers at a fancy place where my bill for one person is over $100?! What exactly am I tipping my server for then? Please explain.

Hit up Folklore in Wicker Park for dinner around 7 pm. Started with four empanadas (beef and spinach), then got the El Filet steak plus parrillada for two—huge spread of short rib, chorizo, sweetbreads. The vibe was dim and romantic, but service felt slow and a few steaks came overcooked. Bread is nice but cocktails average. Decent portions, a bit pricey for what it felt like.

We come for the best pisco sour in the city paired with their legendary empanadas. 🎯

I thought the food was yummy & service was good. However, we did get a variety of empanadas which were identified wrong by the waiter - our waiter identified the corn empanada for a guest when in reality it was ham and cheese. It was fine in this case but I could see that mistake causing more of an issue if there were food allergies or dietary restrictions. In terms of indoor ambience, it was super dark and hot. I also thought it could be easy for someone to accidentally knock over the real candles on the table and start a fire.
